The story begins with Barha's father experiencing a dream of a loved one's death, which is interpreted within the Tripura community as a sign of good luck for hunting. This belief brings a mix of worry and anticipation. The situation takes a turn when their neighbor, Lagna, reports that a large herd of wild boars has destroyed her ripe rice crop. Upon investigation, Barha's father discovers that not only boars but also gaurs (wild cattle) have raided the field. To protect the remaining crops, they decide to set up three traps using strong ropes and tree branches. While they prepare for the night in the jhum hut, consuming cucumbers and corn from Lagna's field, the suspense builds for the next morning. The story concludes with Barha checking the first trap, which is empty, leaving the outcome of the other traps and the success of their hunting endeavor uncertain. The narrative highlights cultural beliefs surrounding dreams and hunting, community cooperation in the face of agricultural disaster, and the anticipation of a hunter's success. It is a story of hope, resilience, and the traditional practices of a community facing the challenges of nature.","Sharing Our Meat Ananto Tripura \nMoumita Sikder \nThe land by the Sangu River in Bandarban, where the rushing blue water is surrounded by vibrant green hills, is as pretty as a picture . This is where Barha lived with his father and mother. \nEarly one morning, Barha saw that his father was crying in his sleep.“Why are you crying, Baba?” he asked. Baba explained that he had seen one of his relatives die in his dream . Barha was worried when he heard this. \n“Don’t worry, my son,” Baba said.“In the Tripura community, we believe that a dream about the death of a loved one means that someone in the village will have good luck hunting animals.” This was good news, but Barha still felt a little bit sad. \nBarha’s mother cooked snails with white gourd that day. She also made mashed chilies with spinach. Suddenly, their neighbor Lagna arrived. She was out of breath from running.“You won’t believe what happened. Last night, nearly twenty wild boars came into my field and ate the ripe rice. They are probably still nearby!” \nBaba quickly set out for the fields, taking Barha and their hunting dog with him. \nThey arrived at Lagna’s jhum field and saw that her hard-earned crops had been ruined. Looking closely, Baba realized that not only wild boars, but also gaurs, which were wild cattle, had entered the place. \nTo save the remaining crops, he decided to set traps. Using strong ropes and tree branches, they set three traps one by one . \nLagna, meanwhile, brought cucumbers and corn from her field. They would have these for dinner and spend the night in the jhum hut. \nFinally, the night passed and it was morning again. Everyone was waiting to see what had happened. Barha went to check the first trap, but there was nothing in it.
