Front matter includes acknowledgements and a translator’s preface that frames Badiou’s emphasis on syntax and formal relations in the transmission of thought. The contents outline a progression toward a concluding synthesis, followed by notes and an index for reference.","ALAIN BAD IO U \n1= o 􀀁 \nQ., \nl,.􀀇_ o, \np = degree of \nexis(ence of x \nidentity of a and b \nTRA.'>SCEl'DENTAL \nWORLD = MULTIPLICITIES + TRANSCENDENTAL lNDEXATIONS \nBEl􀀥G \nSecond Manifesto for Philosophy \nSecond Manifesto for Philosophy \nALAIN BADIOU \n hy Louise Burchill \npolity \nFirst puhlished as .)'ec()lId !)()ur I({ Lihrairie Fayard. \n2009 \nThis Engilsh © Poilt}' Press. 2011 \nII! 􀀃II \n' if. \n\" \nFR'N\u003C;AISE \nThis hook h supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of the Burgess programme run by the Cultural Department of the French Embassy in London frenchbooKncws,(om) \nOuvrage public avec Ie du de Culture - Centre national \ndu livre \nPublished with the assistance of the French !\\1inistr􀄘 of Culture - National Centre for the Book \nPolity Press \n65 Bridge Street \nCambridge CB2 IUR. Schema 2 had been handed \n in my seminar, which Monique Stobienia attended. Interested in incorporating \nical concepts contemporary work on visibility, she then elaborated an astonishing series of variations of this schema (in truth, seven different which ranged from a version as close as to-although already far beyond \n- original (this being the painting here for Schema 2) to constructions where the lines' structured force merges with an original conception of colour and a sort of underlying fantastical landscape. I have, moreover, reserved one \nof these variations for the of this book, for this intermixing furnishes me with a sensible idea of what philosophy, in the grip of its own appear ing, inflicts upon the concepts that it, in addition, exhibits. In the light of all this, I commissioned Monique Stobienia to freely execute Schema 1. \nI would like here to warmly and philosophically thank this artist. I, moreover, believe that this collaboration, so generously initiated by hermusing upon and experimenting with my work-as she had already done for that of Jacques Derrida-will continue under different forms. \nTranslator's Preface: A Manifest Power of Elevation \nLike a number of other philosophers of his generation - notably, Deleuze and Derrida Badiou has emphatically asserted the primacy of syntax over semantics and etymology.
