It doesn't contain the live virus but instead injects a circular piece of DNA containing the genetic instructions for a specific protein from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  \n• Covaxin (India): Inactivated Viral VaccineCovaxin is an inactivated viral vaccine. This means it uses a whole SARSCoV-2 virus that has been chemically inactivated (killed) so it can no longer cause illness. The inactivated virus still retains its structure and can be recognized by the immune system, prompting it to develop antibodies to fight the actual virus if encountered later.  \n• Covishield (India): Viral Vector VaccineCovishield is a viral vector vaccine developed by Oxford University/AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. It uses a modified version of a chimpanzee adenovirus (a common cold virus) as a carrier. This carrier virus has been engineered to carry the gene encoding the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  \n• Moderna (USA): mRNA VaccineModerna is an mRNA vaccine, a relatively new type of technology. It uses a strand of messenger RNA (mRNA) that carries the genetic instructions for building the specific spike protein found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. When injected, the mRNA enters human cells and instructs them to produce the spike protein.  \n• CAR T-cell therapy is indeed a form of gene therapy where T cells are genetically engineered to produce special structures called chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) on their surface. When these CAR T cells are reinfused into the patient’s body, they can bind to antigens on the cancer cells and destroy them. While it has shown promise in treating certain blood cancers, its use in solid tumors is still under research and not the primary application as of the latest updates. The therapy does involve the use of engineered viruses to introduce the CAR genes into T cells.  \n• Cord blood is the blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta after a baby is born. It's a rich source of stem cells, which have the potential to develop into many different types of cells found in the body, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.Cord blood is indeed rich in hematopoietic stem cells, which have the potential to treat a variety of diseases. private cord blood banks store cord blood for exclusive use by the donor or the donor’s family, not for public use. ICMR does not recommend private cord blood banking for future self-use unless there is an existing child with a condition treatable with these cells, and the mother is expecting another baby.
