water surgetown,was the hardest hit amongfrom Gunung Jerai lashed Yanfour schools.The other affectedand its neighbouring district ofschools were SMKYan,SKLangka-Kuala Muda.suka and SJKC York Khoon.  \nIt was reported that the Edu-cation Ministry had approved aRM2.4 million allocation to repairthe affected schools.  \nEvery inch of the school com-pound was covered inupto half ametre of mud  \n“We couldn't believe our eyesupon seeing the whole schoolcompound and classrooms coV-ered in knee-deep thick mud.  \npupils from bouncing back.  \nthe disaster three years ago.  \nIt was a double blow to theteachers too,as some of their ownhomes were damaged by floodsbrought on by the surge.  \n“More importantly,the projectwas driven by pupils from specialneeds classes.It is a huge moraleboost for them and everyone atthe school as well,”Izham said.  \nThe school had since baggedseveral awards in state and na-tional competitions.  \n\"I dread to think what couldhave happened if the school wasopen that day,”said AhmadIzham Ismail,the school's seniorassistant(Special Education).  \nIzham said it took three monthsto completely clean up theschool,which had an enrolmentof 360 pupils,with 41 teachersand eight administrative staff.  \nAmong the highlights was itssuccess in grabbing third place ata national-level farming innova-tion competition recently with itshydroponic project.  \nThe
