Whilst the scaffolding connections can be simple, the structures that are produced can be complex and are safety critical.
INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCE IN ENGINEERING-CONSTRUCTION (ICE) SCHEME
ICE Validates knowledge and skills against ECITB Standards ensuring people working in the engineering-construction industries are technically competent. ICE recognises the importance of continuous training/assessment through the ICE renewal process.
The International Competence in Engineering-Construction (ICE Level 1) Framework defines the basic Health, Safety and Environmental and scaffolding skills and knowledge required to work in an Engineering-Construction scaffolding environment.
ICE Level 1
At ECITB ICE level 1 the individual is typically tasked with simple supervised scaffolding activities such as;
• Select, inspect and erect scaffolding structures up to 3 lifts (6m)
• Interpret and apply relevant current regulations and codes of practice
• Select and inspect scaffold materials for the serviceability
• Select the correct quantity and type of components required
• Have working knowledge of health and safety awareness, manual handling and alterations of scaffolding
All activities at this level will be in accordance with the approved procedures, drawings and all other relevant international/approved standards. Additionally, all tasking and subsequent activities will be performed under the direct supervision of a suitably qualified and experienced person.
| | | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| | COMPONENTS OF ICE LEVEL 1 – SCAFFOLDING LABOURER | |
| To achieve the ICE Level 1 Award candidates must successfully complete the following:
• ECITB International Health and Safety Passport (IHSP) Foundation
• ECITB Level 1 Scaffolding Technical Test
Note:
The aims of the ECITB IHSP scheme are to ensure that all site personnel worldwide have reached a recognised level of Health and Safety knowledge and awareness and to enable them to work on site more safely, reducing the health and safety risk to themselves and others around them.
To ensure individuals reach the required level of Health and Safety knowledge, all delegates on each of the courses MUST successfully complete the necessary training programme, which in all cases includes at least one examination.
