As the population grows and ages, there will be an increasing demand for diagnostic imaging. With age comes increased incidence of illness and injury, which often requires diagnostic imaging for diagnosis. In addition to diagnosis, diagnostic imaging is used to monitor the progress of disease treatment. \nCaring, dependability, and accuracy are some characteristics needed to be successful in this profession. Technical proficiency, attention to detail, problem-solving, communication skills, physical stamina, along with adaptability are also needed characteristics to be successful in the field of sonography. \nThe Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) requires that the student complete 77-79 semester hours of general education and Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses. Admission into the DMS classes is limited and students must meet certain criteria to apply (see application form checklist) . This program admits 10-14 students each Fall semester. After acceptance into this program, classes follow a continuous 24-month curriculum (6 semesters – fall, spring, summer and fall, spring, summer) . Each student must receive a minimum grade of “C” in all DMS courses. \nPrior to completion of the program the student becomes eligible to sit for multiple national registry exams provided by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) . This program will prepare students for the following registry exams: Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI), Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), and Vascular Technology (VT) . Satisfactory results on the exams will provide the \nstudent/graduate the following credentials-'Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)’and 'Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)' . The earning of such credentials prior to employment or within a specific time frame indicated by the employer is necessary to work in the field. The SPI exam can be taken as soon as the Physics and Instrumentation courses are successfully completed during the program. The specialty exams AB, OB/GYN, and VT can betaken 60 days prior to program completion under the ARDMS Paperless Application Program. \nFor further information on the profession , visit the following websites: \n● American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) -[https://www.ardms.org/](https://www.ardms.org/) \n● Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) -[https://www.sdms.org/](https://www.sdms.org/)● American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) -[https://www.aium.org/](https://www.aium.org/) \nADMISSION PROCEDURE \nAnyone interested in pursuing an AAS degree in Diagnostic Medical Sono","cbCaisy18YfLAgKs","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisy18YfLAgKs","pdf",606614,25,"English","# Sonographers\n# Admission Procedure\n## SVCC New Student Admission Policy\n## Academic Admission Requirements\n## Sonography Application Form\n## Sonography Point System for Candidate Evaluation\n## Criminal Background Check\n## Personal History Information\n## Physical Ability Standards\n## Disability Statement\n## Plagiarism Statement\n## Non-Discrimination in Employment and Student Relations\n## Sexual Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy (Title IX)\n## Recommendation Form","[{\"question\":\"What do sonographers do in the diagnostic process?\",\"answer\":\"Sonographers perform ultrasound examinations, interpret images, collaborate with physicians, and provide patient care using high-quality ultrasound imaging to support diagnosis and treatment monitoring.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the core academic and progression requirements for the DMS program?\",\"answer\":\"Students complete general education and DMS coursework for a 77–79 semester-hour program.
