Data sampling and regressions are two topics that are unique to the SAT, but even these more complex topics in statistics boil down to two simple rules for the test: i) a sample should include as many different parts of the whole as possible to be relevant ii) more samples are generally more reliable. The main difference in subject material between the 9th grade SHSAT and the SAT is the depth to which students learn algebra and trigonometry. The SAT requires a solid understanding of Algebra II and trigonometry, many aspects of which are covered in this course for 9th graders. As a result, if you completed the course herein and practiced the more advanced lessons extensively, then chances are you will recognize most of the material on the following SAT samples. Only a few topics will appear beyond your skill level—topics students will learn in their high school classes or typically in a matter of weeks or months with tutoring support. \nThe question prompts are longer for the SAT, and everything happens a little more quickly, but again the lessons learned in this course directly apply to the exam. Patterned answers and typical traps are much the same. The different solution methods do not change. Each question is designed to be answered within 30 seconds. A focus on details and the ability to find the informal, clever solutions will be rewarded. The SAT provides two math exam sections: one without calculators like the SHSAT and one where calculators are allowed. Like the SHSAT, the exams are mainly multiple choice but include a few grid-in format questions. Try following the following no calculator SAT math exam with 25 questions to be completed in 20 minutes, and decide if your training to this point helped you get ready for the more important long-term goal—success on college entrance exams. Good luck. \n1. A gardener buys two kinds of fertilizer. Fertilizer A contains 70% filler materials by weight and Fertilizer B contains 30% filler materials by weight. Together, the fertilizers bought by the gardener contain a total of 200 pounds of filler materials. Which equation models this relationship, where x is the number of pounds of Fertilizer A andy is the number of pounds of Fertilizer B? \nA) 0.3x + 0.7y = 200 \nB) 0.7x + 0.3y = 200 \nC) 30x + 70y = 200 \nD) 70x + 30y = 200 \n2. 9x2 − 4 = (nx + t)(nx − t) \nIn the equation above, n and t are constants. \nWhich of the following could be the value of n? \nA) 2 \nB) 3 \nC) 4 \nD) 9 \n3.
