The program emphasizes building deep knowledge through guided instruction, structured homework review, and practical test-taking strategies. When possible, students complete a diagnostic exam to help tutors construct a personalized study schedule, align focus areas to strengths and weaknesses, and explain results in context to support progress and confidence.","SAT Comprehensive Syllabus 16 sessions \nThis course offers a comprehensive overview of the SAT. It consists of sixteen 90 minute tutoring sessions. Below, you will find descriptions of lesson plans and homework assignments designed to help our students achieve the highest scores they can on their exams. \nThis course is ideal for students who are first getting to know the exam, and for students looking to spend a prolonged period of time focusing on specific skills and concepts. As with all of our courses, our tutors tailor lesson plans and homework assignments to the specific strengths, weaknesses, preferences, and needs of any given student. Students should feel free to follow the syllabus as is, or to build an entirely new course of study with their tutor. \nBefore the first session, if possible, students will take a diagnostic exam that will allow the tutor to construct a plan for their time with the student. From there, the tutor and student will work together to build a study schedule that will allow the student to maximize their performance on exam day. \nRequired Materials \n● Kaplan SAT Prep Plus 2020 \n● Princeton Review: 10 Practice Tests for the SAT, 2020 Edition \n● SAT Prep Black Book: Second Edition \n● Ivy Global Book of 6 Practice Tests \nOnline Materials \n● TSNY Web App \n● Khan Academy \n● Kaplan and Princeton Review Accounts \n© Tutoring Service ofNew York 2020 SAT Syllabus 1 \nSession 1 : Introduction to the SAT, Test-Taking Strategies \nDuring the first session, the tutor and student will get to know one another, learn the structure and purpose of the SAT, cover key test-taking strategies, and apply those techniques to practice questions. It’s important during the first session for the student and tutor to get to know one another--we’re invested in our students as people, not statistics. This session allows students to get a foundation in the test, and allows tutors to better understand how their students think and solve problems. \nThe SAT tests more than one’s ability to do algebra or correct a run-on sentence. The SAT tests students’ ability to think critically and strategically, to recognize patterns, and maintain concentration. This first session establishes ways of thinking about the test that will allow students to study as effectively as possible. \nIn-Session \n• A brief discussion of the diagnostic, goals, interests, test date, academic history, and more \n• Introduction to the SAT: Exam Structure, Material Covered, Time Management (Kaplan: P. 1-9, TSNY Handout) \n• Brief discussion of diagnostic test (if applicable) \n• Introduction to test-taking strategies (TSNY Handout) \n• Implementation of test-taking strategies across the exam, using the diagnostic \n• Explain and Discuss Personal Study Guide \nHomework \n• If the student has not already taken a diagnostic test prior to the first session, they should take College Board SAT Practice Test 1, Timed \n• Reading Comprehension Intro (Kaplan: P. 463-509) \n• Kaplan Reading Test Online Practice Questions \n• Optional: Ivy Global Practice Test 1, Reading Section, Untimed \n© Tutoring Service ofNew York 2020 SAT Syllabus 2 \nSession 2 : Reading Comprehension and Intro to Writing \nOnce students have been introduced to the test in the first session, it’s time to move on to the first section of the test. To start the course, we believe it’s best to examine the test material in the order in which students encounter it on the actual test. Reading Comprehension first, then Writing, then Math No Calculator, and Math with Calculator. \nStarting off with questions about the homework is a great way to warm up, and helps reinforce lessons learned from previous sessions and, obviously, homework assignments. The tutor and student then review material assigned for homework to further reinforce it. The key to doing well on test day is building deep knowledge--not cramming. Reinforcement and repetition are key. \nIn the second half of the session, students lear","cbCaioYE0ZvphWNC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaioYE0ZvphWNC","pdf",157604,14,17,"English","en",105,"# Session 1: Introduction to the SAT, Test-Taking Strategies\n## In-Session\n## Homework\n# Session 2: Reading Comprehension and Intro to Writing\n## In-Session\n## Homework\n# Session 3: Writing and Intro to Math","[{\"question\":\"How many tutoring sessions are included in the SAT course?\",\"answer\":\"The course consists of sixteen 90-minute tutoring sessions.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the diagnostic exam before the first session?\",\"answer\":\"The diagnostic exam helps the tutor construct a plan and build a study schedule tailored to the student’s needs and goals.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the syllabus decide the order of SAT topics during the course?\",\"answer\":\"It follows the same order students encounter on the actual test: Reading Comprehension first, then Writing, then Math No Calculator, and Math with Calculator.\"}]","SAT Comprehensive Syllabus - 16 Sessions | PDF",1789414605,43,{"code":4,"msg":83,"data":84},"ok",{"site_id":76,"language":75,"slug":85,"title":65,"keywords":86,"description":66,"schema_data":87,"social_meta":141,"head_meta":143,"extra_data":145,"updated_unix":80},"sat-comprehensive-syllabus-16-sessions","",{"@graph":88,"@context":140},[89,103,123],{"@type":90,"itemListElement":91},"BreadcrumbList",[92,96,98,101],{"item":93,"name":94,"@type":95,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":97,"name":9,"@type":95,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":99,"name":20,"@type":95,"position":100},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/",3,{"item":102,"name":65,"@type":95,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/sat-comprehensive-syllabus-16-sessions/267082/",{"url":102,"name":65,"@type":104,"image":105,"author":110,"headline":65,"publisher":112,"fileFormat":115,"inLanguage":75,"description":66,"dateModified":116,"datePublished":117,"encodingFormat":115,"isAccessibleForFree":118,"interactionStatistic":119},"DigitalDocument",{"url":106,"@type":107,"width":108,"height":109},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/sat-comprehensive-syllabus-16-sessions/267082.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":63,"@type":111},"Person",{"url":93,"name":113,"@type":114},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-09-14",true,{"@type":120,"interactionType":121,"userInteractionCount":72},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":122},"ViewAction",{"@type":124,"mainEntity":125},"FAQPage",[126,132,136],{"name":127,"@type":128,"acceptedAnswer":129},"How many tutoring sessions are included in the SAT course?","Question",{"text":130,"@type":131},"The course consists of sixteen 90-minute tutoring sessions.","Answer",{"name":133,"@type":128,"acceptedAnswer":134},"What is the purpose of the diagnostic exam before the first session?",{"text":135,"@type":131},"The diagnostic exam helps the tutor construct a plan and build a study schedule tailored to the student’s needs and goals.",{"name":137,"@type":128,"acceptedAnswer":138},"How does the syllabus decide the order of SAT topics during the course?",{"text":139,"@type":131},"It follows the same order students encounter on the actual test: Reading Comprehension first, then Writing, then Math No Calculator, and Math with Calculator.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":102,"og:type":142,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":113,"og:description":66},"article",{"robots":144,"canonical":102},"index,follow",{"doc_id":61,"site_id":76}]
