The course is designed to increase problem-solving abilities and data interpretation through practical applications of statistical concepts. This course is appropriate for students in a wide range of disciplines and programs. Non-symbolic graphing calculators are required. The TI- 83/84 Series is recommended. A minimum grade of“C” is required if used to meet College-Level Communications and Computation Skills requirements for general education. \nCOURSE PREREQUISITES \nPrerequisite(s): Students who are exempt from placement testing may enroll in this course with no prerequisites. Students who are NOT exempt from placement testing may meet the prerequisite through any one of the following: (1) 114 or higher on the math section of the PERT OR (2) successful completion of MAT 0022 or MAT 0028 with a grade of “C” or better or equivalent or higher mathematics course. \nCOURSE-LEVEL STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES \n• Students will visualize and summarize data using descriptive statistics. \n• Students will apply basic probability concepts to draw reasonable conclusions. \n• Students will employ concepts of random variables, sampling distributions, and central limit theorem to analyze and interpret representations of data. \n• Students will choose an appropriate method of inferential statistics, including confidence intervals and hypothesis testing, to make decisions about a population based on sample data. \n• Students will model linear relationships between quantitative variables using correlation and linear regression. \n• Students will use calculators and/or software to apply statistical analysis and reasoning to realworld applications. \nREQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS \nELEMENTARY STATISTICS Eleventh Edition, Allan G, Bluman, McGrawHill. Must purchase ALEKS \nGraphing Calculator is required-TI-83 or TI-84 recommended \nASSIGNMENTS, GRADING SCHEME AND PROCEDURES \nThis course uses various summative assessments to measure student performance toward the student learning outcomes listed above.
