hospital. \nBecause it is dificult to persuade doctors to remain in the ruralareas of Saskatchewan and because the population of that Provinceis 75 to 80 per cent rural, the iden was conceived that one way to helpkeep a doctor in a rural district would be to make available a smallhospital where he could attend his maternity and emergency casesespecially.Consequently the union hospital act was passed eightyears ago by the legislative assembly of Saskatchewan providing forthe fornation of“union hospital districts.” \nThese union hospital districts may be formed by either of twomethods:(1)Two or more contiguous rural municipalities may co-operate in securing a hospital;(2)portions of rural municipalitiesmay cooperate in forming a hospital district.(“Municipality”isthe term used to denote a division of a Province similar to counties inStates of the United States. These divisions are about 18 milessquare.) \nThe lieutenant governor of the Province may,in three differentways, define and establish hospital districts which may embrace mu-nicipalities and portions of municipalities:(1)On petition of thecouncil of each municipality concerned,(2)on petition of 5 per centof the taxpayers in each township to be included,or(3)on petitionof the councils of some of the municipalities and,in the other muni-cipalities,5 per cent of the taxpayers in each township to be included.Following the establishment of hospita districts a board of directorsis appointed by the municipalities and townships concerned,as fol-lows:Each municipality or a rea with assessment not exceeding \n$1,000,000 is represented on the board by one member;each munici-pality or area with assessment exceeding $1,000,000 and not exceed-ing 2,000,000,by two members;each municipality or area withassessment exceeding $2,000,000,by three members. \nThis board must then prepare an estimate of the cost of site,con-struction,and equipment of the proposed hospital, which must beapproved by the minister of public health o","cbCaiokvEKWmspg0","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiokvEKWmspg0","pdf",319960,"English","# Technical Microform Data\n## Film size and reduction ratio\n# Restrictions on Use\n#
