more than 􀀐􀀌􀀌 young people from all over Saskatchewan gath􀀉 ered at Teachers 􀀜redit Union Place in Saskatoon recently to discuss the province’s future and their place in it􀀊\u003Cbr>Youth were randomly put into groups and then sent to breakout sessions in which they exchanged ideas and thoughts about various topics including􀀖\u003Cbr>who currently reside in Saskatchewan􀀊 They ranged from Kaveri 􀀛ittira who is a journalist for 􀀜􀀛􀀜 television and host of the Youth Summit to Jason Loutitt who works with the 􀀚boriginal Role model 􀀞steem team and the Gov􀀉 ernment of 􀀜anada􀀊\u003Cbr>In the end the Summit accomplished many of the goals that organizers had hoped􀀊 Youth were talking about the future􀀈 not just their future􀀈 but their future in\u003Cbr>Saskatchewan􀀊\u003Cbr>Youth friendly Workplaces􀀈 Saskatchewan in the Year 􀀎􀀌􀀎􀀌􀀈 and 􀀜ool 􀀜ommunities􀀊\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>􀀕Y 􀀕 U􀀘 P􀀘 􀀘T􀀜􀀘R\u003Cbr>The local business sector was able to network with many of the promising youth here in the\u003Cbr>Many of the youth in attendance said they are frus􀀉 trated at the lack of recognition they receive and often feel their voice on many of the issues affecting them is not be􀀉 ing heard􀀊\u003Cbr>“You build communities through all of the people in that community and currently the youth voice is not being heard􀀈” suggested Tala Tootoosis􀀈 who works with 􀀜om􀀉 munities for 􀀜hildren in Saskatoon􀀊 “􀀚nd that’s tragic be􀀉 cause we are the future􀀊”\u003Cbr>􀀚 growing concern in this Saskatchewan is the migra􀀉 tion of youth to other places around the country􀀊 It was a major focus of the politicians and the business community in attendance􀀊 The strategy􀀈 one that the provincial govern􀀉 ment has been aggressively pursuing in recent months􀀈 is to showcase the bountiful opportunities that Saskatchewan has to offer􀀊\u003Cbr>Premier Lorne 􀀜alvert attempted to address such is􀀉 sues and told the youth in attendance that the future in this province is bright􀀊\u003Cbr>“Today’s Saskatchewan offers youth unparalleled pro􀀉 fessional􀀈 cultural􀀈 and lifestyle opportunities and more im􀀉 portantly it offers the opportunity to build a future􀀈” 􀀜alvert said􀀊\u003Cbr>􀀚ttendees were also exposed to many successful youth\u003Cbr>province􀀊 The young people were given the spotlight to voice concerns and opinions on issues that matter􀀊\u003Cbr>Perhaps the only thing missing was the fact that more 􀀚boriginal youth were not in attendance􀀊 􀀚s the fastest ris􀀉 ing demographic in the province􀀈 it was disappointing for organizers that only a few young irst Nations and Metis youth participated in the Summit􀀊\u003Cbr>Next year􀀈 organizers would like to have at least 􀀍􀀌􀀌􀀚boriginal youth in an effort to be more reflective of the true population in the
