Hired for a routine E-Rank run, he confronts a lightning-throwing draconic boss whose defeat turns the System red and grants an Instance Crown, Dungeon Lord status, and the hidden skill Class Smithing. Only he and a fire mage survivor escape to a Soulforge chamber, where dungeon management and crafted Classes redefine progression beyond System limits.","[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nCopyright © 2026 by Leon West All rights reserved. \nNo part of this publication may be reproduced, distributed, or transmitted in any form or by any means, including photocopying, recording, or other electronic or mechanical methods, without the prior written permission of the publisher, except as permitted by U.S. copyright law. My old party had fallen apart six months earlier, after our teammate Brian evolved a skill into a Mythic-tier ability called Consume and used it to murder two of our friends, Ashley and Becky, absorbing their power. That left me and Madeline Walker with no choice but to pin him to the floor of a collapsing instance with my bucklers and leave him there to die, knowing the collapse would shunt him into the void. That act, justified or not, haunted both of us. Maddy and I stopped talking. I moved to Chicago and disappeared into the grind. \nThen a pickup group hired me as a fifth for a routine E-Rank run in Advance, Indiana. The party leader was Justin, a swordsman with a suspiciously powerful weapon. Dave was the tank, a barbarian with a heart bigger than his battle axe. Grace was their healer, a devil-kin with a careful hand and a generous spirit. And Blair Harrington was their fire mage, a phoenix-kin who threw spinning wheels of flame and had a mouth sharp enough to match. \nThe instance was a ruined cityscape filled with Kobolds. Standard fare, except the numbers were heavier than expected. We cleared the mobs without too much trouble, but the boss was a different story. A draconic figure in black armor, barely seven feet tall and deceptively small for how \nmuch power it carried, easily D-Rank or higher and throwing lightning bolts that could level buildings. The instance locked behind us. There was no way out except through. \nWe fought it together. Justin revealed he’d been ninja-looting the party to afford his enchanted sword, which conjured a ghostly second blade that cut straight through armor. Blair hammered it with fire from above. Dave tanked hits that would have killed anyone without his Rage skill. Grace kept us patched together. I parried everything I could reach, protecting the others from killing blows. \nIt wasn’t enough. The boss killed Grace first, running her through as she tried to heal a downed Justin. Then it finished Justin off, driving its tail spike through his skull and swinging his body into me like a club. While I lay broken and bleeding and it wrote me off as dead, it killed Dave last, cutting him down as he knelt over Grace’s body too lost in grief to defend himself. That left only Blair and me. She was up in a building, raining down fire the boss could shrug off, and I was the one broken on the ground between it and her.
