The author clarifies that names, characters, and incidents are imagined and that the stories are written for entertainment, not to encourage blind faith or superstition. In the author’s desk, the nursery rhyme’s different versions across regions are traced, and one dark origin theory is connected to England’s 1665 Great Plague, linking each line to plague-era conditions and symptoms, while reflecting on how childhood memories can transform tragedy into a harmless game.","Neil D’Silva \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nRINGA RINGA ROSES is a short story collection. Atishoo! \nWe all fall down. \nThe above version may date as far back as the 17th century, when it was sung as a common playground game in Europe. The game had children running along a circle, holding hands, with one of them at the center. The children in the circle sang the ditty in a chorus as they ran. The moment the last line was sung, the children would stop and make a curtsy to the one in the middle. The slowest one to curtsy was deemed the loser and would then have to stand at the center for the next round. \nSoon, variations of the rhyme became popular in countries in far-flung continents. Wherever colonialism gained roots, this playground game went along too; and so catchy and simple were the tune and the lyrics that even non-English cultures assumed it as their own, lacing it with their own colloquialisms. \nIt could be safe to say that no child in India has grown up without either singing or hearing the rhyme. And as it happened in other originally nonEnglish-speaking countries, Indian children too gave the rhyme a spin of their own, and it was soon transformed to the following version: \nRinga ringa roses \nPocket full of posies \nHusha! Busha! \nWe all fall down. \nAnd this is the version we have grown up singing and are familiar with. \nMy interest in choosing Ringa Ringa Roses as the title of this story collection centered on children stems from one of its possible origin theories. The origin theory that I speak of here is perhaps one of the darkest theories for any nursery rhyme, and therein lies the greatest horror of it, for \nmillions of children sing the rhyme innocently without being aware of the great tragedy that it alludes to. \nIn 1665, England was affected by one of its grimmest health disasters—the Great Plague. Nicknamed as the Black Death, this was a pandemic of the bubonic plague, a disease which had originated in China. The killer plague was transmitted among the English by the biting of an infected rat flea. Despite the advanced medical facilities that England had (for that time), the plague stayed on for a period of eighteen months and claimed a hundred thousand lives, which was a quarter of London’s population at that time. \nIt was in the aftermath of this ","cbCaiqCHOoV2vMcP","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqCHOoV2vMcP","pdf",824776,3,123,"English","en",105,"# From the Author’s Desk\n## Nursery rhyme origins and regional versions\n## 1665 England and the Great Plague theory\n## Line-by-line interpretation of the rhyme","[{\"question\":\"RINGA RINGA ROSES 属于什么类型的作品？ ,"https://schema.org",{"og:url":51,"og:type":87,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":58,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":89,"canonical":51},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":92},[93,96,100,104,109,114,119,124,129,132,136],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":94,"slug":95},90,"story-novel",{"id":47,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":97,"show_sort_weight":98,"slug":99},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":52,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":105,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":106,"show_sort_weight":107,"slug":108},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":110,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":111,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":113},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":115,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":116,"show_sort_weight":117,"slug":118},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":120,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":121,"show_sort_weight":122,"slug":123},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":125,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":126,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":128},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":127,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":130,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":131},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":133,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":134,"show_sort_weight":133,"slug":135},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":137,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":138,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":139},19,"General","general"]
