It explains how tillers, leaves, and stalks emerge, how flowering and fruiting timing relates to temperature and day length, and how to use fertilizer based on observed plant development. It also covers selecting suitable rice varieties, including avoiding overly tall types to prevent lodging and improving yield through leaf posture and strong tillering.","Rice Paddy Book 1 \nHow to Plant Rice \nlevel: advanced \nEnglish Agriculture \nRice Paddy Book 1 \nHow to Plant Rice \nAdapted from Ini Sa Ukit Ta Egbael Basakan © 1993, SIL Philippines and is shared under a CC:BY-NC (4 .0) licence. \nIllustrations are from the collection of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines © IRRI 2020. The water helps the rice to grow well, and also prevents the growth of many weeds that would otherwise hinder the growth of the rice. \nStages in the Development of Rice \nTo grow a good crop, you must study the way in which rice develops. Seeds are first prepared as shown on page 9 and planted in a seedbed. \nThe illustration shows how the first leaves and tillers appear, and the stalk grows. (A tiller is a shoot that includes the roots, stem and leaves.) When the seedling has grown strong, it will develop more tillers and leaves, and will become bigger and wider. \nIf the weather is cold and the days are short, the flower heads will develop slowly, but if it is hot and the days longer, the flower heads will develop more quickly. \nThe Flowering and","cbCait5BrdqmoTDy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCait5BrdqmoTDy","pdf",424495,5,1,25,"English","en",105,"# Stages in the Development of Rice\n## The Flowering and Fruiting Stage\n# Varieties of Rice","[{\"question\":\"Why are rice paddies useful for growing rice throughout the year?\",\"answer\":\"Rice paddies let you plant rice at any time of year as long as water is available.
