Nurses may be selected to be item writers or item reviewers. \nIf you are selected to serve, you will: \n􀂃 Contribute to continued excellence in the nursing profession; \n􀂃 Have opportunities to network on a national and international level; \n􀂃 Build new skills that are useful in your current position, as well as for professional growth; and \n􀂃 Receive verification of continuing education contact hours. \nNCSBN and the Item Development Program \nThe major functions of the NCSBN are to develop the NCLEX-RN®, NCLEX-PN® and REx-PN, promote uniformity in the regulation of nursing practice, disseminate data related to licensure, conduct research pertinent to its mission and serve as a forum for information exchange for members. The Item Development Program is a key component of these major functions and in maintaining high quality NCLEX and REx-PN items. \nQualifications to Serve \nTo serve on an Item Development Panel, you must: \n1. Be currently licensed/registered in the jurisdiction in which you practice and employed in a U. S. NCSBN member board jurisdiction/Canada; \n2. Be one of the following: \n􀂃 For NCLEX-RN opportunities: registered nurse (RN); \n􀂃 For NCLEX-PN or REx-PN opportunities: licensed practical/vocational/registered practical nurse (LPN/VN/RPN) or RN. \n3. Be knowledgeable of the current scope and practice of nursing, including entry-level practice; \n4. Be employed as an RN or LPN/VN/RPN for at least two years; and \n5. Have not participated in nursing licensure examination development activities, including the development of nursing licensure exam preparation guides and courses in the previous two years. We ask that subject matter experts (SMEs) with nursing licensure examination development experience not volunteer for NCLEX or REx-PN item development activities during this timeframe to minimize potential biases that these previous experiences may bring to the NCLEX or REx-PN development process. \nIn addition to the listed qualifications: \nITEM WRITERS \nItem writers create the items (questions) that are administered on the NCLEX and REx-PN. You must be responsible for teaching basic/undergraduate students in the clinical area. NCLEX-RN item writers must have a master’s degree or higher. \nITEM REVIEWERS \nItem reviewers examine the items that are created by item writers. You must be currently employed in clinical nursing practice and working directly with nurses who have entered nursing practice during the past 12 months, specifically in a precepting or supervising capacity. \nWe’ve Made It Easy to Participate \nTo apply, simply complete an online \napplication by visiting [ncsbn.org/volunteer](ncsbn.org/volunteer). \nIf all qualifications are met, NCSBN will obtain approval from your nursing regulatory body. You will receive notification via email when your application is approved. \nApplications remain active for a two-year period from the date of initial submission. \nWe will notify you when you are considered for a specific panel. Each time you are selected, you will participate in a session that lasts three to four days. Sessions are held throughout the year virtually or in Chicago and your travel expenses, including lodging and meals for in-person panels, will be covered. \nFor More Information \n111 E.
