There are quality assurance checks at every point in the exam cycle, from recruiting examiners through to setting grade boundaries. However, we know that there may be times when you doubt that the right mark has been given. In these circumstances, you could request a review of marking or moderation service (RoMM) . \nIf you are from an examination centre and you have questions about your candidates’ results there are different post-results RoMM services you can use, depending on the situation. This guide explains which service to request in the different situations you might face. Please do not forget that marks can go up, stay the same, or go down as a result of these services and student consent must be given . \nThe RoMM services outlined here are designed to help give you the confidence you need that the results you have are correct. Remember you can also access the question papers, mark schemes and Principal Examiner reports in order to help you understand why marks have been given . \nThese can be found on the subject pages of \n[qualifications.pearson.com](qualifications.pearson.com) \nWhat is it? \nWhen do I use it? \nFree Access to Scripts (ATS) \nService 1 Clerical check \nA check of all clerical procedures which lead to us issuing a result. This includes making sure: \n• all parts of the exam paper have been marked \n• marks have been recorded/ added up correctly \n• special consideration has been applied (where appropriate) \n• the grade boundaries have been applied accurately. \nYou might consider this service if the results for one candidate are unexpected compared with the rest of your centre’s cohort. If, following this review, you are still not happy that the mark is the right one, then you should request a review of marking. \nService 2 Review of marking \nService P2 Priority review of marking \nThis service is the same asthe Service 2 review of marking but is processed faster. \nIt is generally used when a candidate’s place in further/ higher education depends on the outcome. It is available when the component is from one of the following qualifications: \n• Edexcel GCSE \n• Edexcel International GCSE \n• Edexcel Certificate \n• Edexcel AEA \n• Edexcel AS andA level \n• Edexcel International AS andA level \n• Edexcel Awards in mathematics (Level 3 only) . \nShould a candidate get a result which they did not expect and it has put their place at FE or HE at risk, request a priority review of marking. This review will take priority over others andwill be completed, and the outcome communicated to you, as quickly as possible. \nService 3 Review of moderation \nIf we have adjusted teacher-marking on a coursework component andyou do not agree with the explanation in the E9 moderator’s report you should request a review of moderation. A senior moderator will check to see whether the original moderator applied the marking criteria correctly. If they did not, revised adjustments will be made, orthe centre marks will be restored. \n[Further information about all our RoMM services can be found at](Further information about all our RoMM services can be found at quals.pearson.com/RoMM)[ ](Further information about all our RoMM services can be found at quals.pearson.com/RoMM)[quals.pearson.com/RoMM](Further information about all our RoMM services can be found at quals.pearson.com/RoMM) \n4466862587 \nVersion 3.0 June 2026 DCL1: Public","cbCaidTjA5PxyvtB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidTjA5PxyvtB","pdf",144793,"English","# Reviews of marking and moderation (RoMM) services\n## Which RoMM service to request\n## What happens after RoMM requests\n## Service 1: Clerical check\n## Service 2: Review of marking\n## Service P2: Priority review of marking\n## Service 3: Review of moderation\n## Where to find further information","[{\"question\":\"When should an examination centre request a RoMM service?\",\"answer\":\"Request RoMM when you doubt that the right mark has been given or when results for a candidate are unexpected compared with the rest of your centre’s cohort.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the Free Access to Scripts (ATS) service used for?\",\"answer\":\"ATS provides free access to scripts to help you understand the marks and how they were awarded, supporting informed decisions about whether further RoMM is needed.\"},{\"question\":\"When is a Priority review of marking required or appropriate?\",\"answer\":\"Use priority review when a candidate’s place in further or higher education depends on the outcome, and the component is from specified qualifications such as Edexcel GCSE and A/AS level (as listed in the guide).\"},{\"question\":\"What triggers a request for a review of moderation?\",\"answer\":\"Request a review of moderation when teacher-marking on a coursework component has been adjusted and you do not agree with the explanation in the E9 moderator’s report.\"}]","Reviews of marking and moderation (RoMM) - Which should I choose? | PDF",1792468957]
