By setting out the range of subject content and areas of study for GCSE specifications in religious studies, the subject content is consistent with the requirements for the statutory provision for religious education in current legislation as it applies to different types of school. \nSubject aims and learning outcomes \n3. GCSE specifications in religious studies should: \n• develop students’ knowledge and understanding of religions and non-religious beliefs, such as atheism and humanism \n• develop students’ knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs, teachings, and sources of wisdom and authority, including through their reading of key religious texts, other texts, and scriptures of the religions they are studying \n• develop students’ ability to construct well-argued, well-informed, balanced and structured written arguments, demonstrating their depth and breadth of understanding of the subject \n• provide opportunities for students to engage with questions of belief, value, meaning, purpose, truth, and their influence on human life \n• challenge students to reflect on and develop their own values, beliefs and attitudesin the light of what they have learnt and contribute to their preparation for adult life in a pluralistic society and global community \n4. Specifications may offer alternative routes through the qualification, drawing from the content set out below in order to provide students with one or more of the following programmes of study: \n• Study of religion: the beliefs and teachings and practices (topics a and b from Part One) in relation to two religions (making up 50% of the overall qualification weighting, shared equally between the two religions) ; AND either: \n• a study of four themes from Part Two adopting a textual approach (50% of the qualification), OR \n• a study of four themes from Part Two adopting the approach of religious, philosophical and ethical studies in the modern world (50% of the qualification), OR \n• a study of four themes from Part Two adopting a textual approach for two of those themes and the approach of religious, philosophical and ethical studies in the modern world for two themes (50% of the qualification) \nOR \n• study all four topics f","cbCaijIfI3wqWXvB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijIfI3wqWXvB","pdf",381159,25,"English","# Introduction\n## Subject aims and learning outcomes\n## Programme of Study\n## Subject content\n### Part One: Study of religions","[{\"question\":\"What does the GCSE Religious Studies subject content framework define?\",\"answer\":\"It defines the common knowledge, understanding and skills required across GCSE Religious Studies specifications and provides a framework for awarding organisations to create specification details, supporting progression from Key Stage 3 and beyond.\"},{\"question\":\"What must GCSE specifications in Religious Studies require students to do?\",\"answer\":\"Students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of two religions, key sources of wisdom and authority, the influence of religion on individuals and society, and construct balanced, well-informed arguments analysing beliefs and values.\"},{\"question\":\"What kinds of programmes of study can specifications offer?\",\"answer\":\"Specifications may offer alternative routes, including a study of two religions combined with either thematic study using a textual approach, a modern-world religious, philosophical and ethical approach, or mixes of the two, plus options involving all four topics from Part One.\"}]","Religious studies GCSE subject content - February 2015 | PDF",1792473514,63]
