Dotson  \n6 By: Representative Brooks 7  \n8 For An Act To Be Entitled  \n9 AN ACT CONCERNING STANDARDIZED ASSESSMENTS; TO AMEND  \n10 THE UNIVERSAL ACT ASSESSMENT PROGRAM ACT; TO AMEND  \n11 THE TYPES OF ASSESSMENTS PUBLIC SCHOOLS MAY PROVIDE  \n12 TO STUDENTS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .  \n13  \n14  \n15 Subtitle  \n16 TO AMEND THE UNIVERSAL ACT ASSESSMENT  \n17 PROGRAM ACT; AND TO AMEND THE TYPES OF  \n18 ASSESSMENTS PUBLIC SCHOOLS MAY PROVIDE  \n19 TO STUDENTS .  \n20  \n21 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 22  \n23 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code Title 6, Chapter 18, Subchapter 16 is amended  \n24 to read as follows:  \n25 Subchapter 16 — Universal ~~ACT~~ Assessment Program Act 26  \n27 6-18-1601. Title.  \n28 This subchapter shall be known and may be cited as the “Universal ~~ACT~~  \n29 Assessment Program Act”.  \n30  \n31 6-18-1602. ~~ Definitions~~ Definition.  \n32 As used in this subchapter:  \n33 (1) (A) ~~“ACT Assessment”~~  \"Assessment\" means a tes t of student  \n34 educational development that measures student readiness for future learning  \n35 and that may be used by institutions of higher education as part of their  \n36 admissions, placement, and scholarship processes and by high schools to  \n1 improve college and workforce readiness~~ ; and~~  \n2 ~~ (2) “Smart Core” means:~~  \n3 ~~ (A) The college and career readiness curriculum by that~~  \n4 ~~ name under the rules of the State Board of Education; or~~  \n5 ~~ (B) A college and career readiness curriculum that is:~~  \n6 ~~ (i) Established by rules of the state board in~~  \n7 ~~ coordination with the Division of Higher Education; and~~  \n8 ~~ (ii) Substituted for the curriculum named “Smart~~  \n9 ~~ Core”~~.  \n10  (B) \"Assessment\" includes without limitation:  \n11  (i) The ACT test;  \n12  (ii) The SAT;  \n13  (iii) The CLT;  \n14  (iv) The PreACT;  \n15  (v) The PSAT 8/9;  \n16  (vi) The PSAT 10;  \n17  (vii) The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship  \n18  Qualifying Test;  \n19  (viii) The CLT 10; or  \n20  (ix) The PreACT 8/9; and  \n21  (2) \"CLT\" means the Classic Learning Test administered by Class  \n22  Learning Initiatives, LLC .  \n23  \n24 6-18-1603. Creation.  \n25 There is created in the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education  \n26 the Universal ~~ACT~~ Assessment Program to be developed, implemented, and  \n27 administered by the division as provided in this subchapter.  \n28  \n29 6-18-1604.
