The committee welcomes the findings and notes broad management agreement, highlighting growth in disaster risk reduction financing and mainstreaming in client portfolios. Discussions emphasize the analytical and convening role of the World Bank, increased collaboration across IFC and MIGA, improving DRR outcome indicators, addressing MENA and ECA coverage gaps, and ensuring DRR elements are integrated upstream.","Public Disclosure Authorized Public Disclosure Authorized \nReducing Disaster Risk from Natural Hazards \nAn Evaluation of World Bank's Support FY10-20 \nReport to the Board from the \nCommittee on Development Effectiveness ∗ \nMeeting of July 27, 2022 \nThe Committee on Development Effectiveness met to consider the IEG’s report Reducing Disaster Risk from Natural Hazards: An Evaluation of World Bank's Support FY10-20 (CODE2022-0029) and the Draft Management Response (CODE2022-0031) . \nThe Committee welcomed the evaluation and commended IEG and the World Bank (WB) Management for their collaborative engagement. Members appreciated the participation of the global climate director and the FCV director in the discussion, next to OPCS. They were pleased to learn that Management was in broad agreement with the evaluation’s overall findings and recommendations. They applauded the disaster risk reduction (DRR) portfolio growth both in terms of financing volumes as well as in mainstreaming within client portfolios, and underscored the importance of the WB’s analytical and convening role to drive DRR and climate resilience progress towards sustainable development. To this end, they also called for greater collaboration between the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA as well as continued coordination with other development partners. Members urged Management to improve DRR outcome indicators in operations and to work with task teams to incorporate them more consistently. \nMembers welcomed Management’s ongoing efforts to address coverage gap issues in MENA and ECA regions, and in the Agriculture and Energy sectors some of which include work on risk assessments through the use of innovative approaches and remote sensing technology. While some raised concerns about the decline in the number of projects supporting disaster response without a DRR element (30% in FY10 to 0% in FY20), they were reassured by IEG’s explanation that the Bank included a focus on disaster risk reduction in all instances when it provided disaster response support, in line with corporate goals of moving DRR elements upstream. To address coverage gaps, Management was encouraged to apply not only a demand-driven approach to DRR operations, but also a supply-driven approach in order to better incorporate DRR activities in regions and sectors with coverage gaps. \n∗ This report is not an approved record.","cbCaipX1VxCONS4m","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipX1VxCONS4m","pdf",162163,1,"English","en",105,"# Key Meeting
