It describes how industries were paralyzed, including restrictions on fresh milk, business activity, mail, and telephone services, and how public urgency shifted after basic needs were disrupted. It recounts citizen mobilization, the formation and growth of “The Committee of One Thousand,” and outlines Resolution No. 3 and the background involving metal trades, union organization, secession, and “One Big Union” campaigns across western Canada.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":15,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/literature/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/red-radicals-attempt-soviet-revolution-the-winnipeg-strike-by-fgr-gordon/325192/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/red-radicals-attempt-soviet-revolution-the-winnipeg-strike-by-fgr-gordon/325192.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Ava Thompson","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-23","2026-09-21",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":44},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What events defined the first phase of the Winnipeg Strike as described here?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"For the first 48 hours, the city’s industries were paralyzed and an attempt was made to starve people into surrender. WINNIPEG STRIKE \nBy F.G.R.Gordon. \nWinnipeg,Manitoba,June 20.—For morethan a month a revolutionary strike, led bysoviet Socialists, has been fought in westernCanada, with Winnipeg the capital of the rev-olutionary forces. \nCr) \nThe industries of the city were paralyzed fordays.During the first 48 hours of the strikean attempt was made to starve the people ofthis city into an uncompromising surrender tothe red flag revolution. \nFor 48 hours no fresh milk was permittedto be distributed to babies,to hospitals,or tosick and hungry. For 48 hours no one was per-mitted to do any business in this great indus-trial centre of 200,000 human beings, and for10 days the citizens were without mail, andmost of this time without telephone service. \nAfter two days of this industrial paralysis, something happened. The Canadians movefairly quick and pretty solidly when once theyare aroused. When it became known through-out the city that babies could not have milk, nor sick people call the doctor on the’phone, when men had to walk miles to the labor templeon James street to secure permission to obtainice on a day when the thermometer registered80 in the shade, when,in a word, the decentcitizens of this Canadian city realized that theywere in the power of a mob which had dictatedby vote the supreme command of the city toan oligarchy of five Socialists, then they sud-denly woke up. \nOne hundred men met in quick order. \nThey discussed the situation, then issued acall for the citizens to organize against a dic-tatorship of a proletariat.Within 48 hours1000 patriotic citizens had heeded the call andwere organized to fight Canadian bolshevism. \nResolution No.3 demanded that the workersorganize on industrial lines, that craft union-ism had outlived its usefulness and pledged or-ganized labor to refrain in the future from ap-pealing to legislative bodies for legislation. \nThey called themselves\"The Committee of OneThousand.”Today that committee of 1000 isswelled to 10,000 and they are still recruiting. \n## THE HISTORY OF THE STRIKE\n\nResolution No.3 was as follows: \nTo get at the real history of this red flagstrike it is necessary to go back
