Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalizedby the Chemical Engineering Plants and Related Equipment Sectional Committee had been approved by theMechanical Engineering Division Council(MEDC). \nThis Indian Standard was first brought out in 1965 and then revised in 1976 to make it more comprehensiveand systematic. The first revision was based on DIN 28004 B1.3.(1971)which has now been revised asDIN 28004:1988.Keeping in view the developments that have taken place over these years in the processequipments and chemical plants,it was decided to revise this standard. \nIn this revision, the requirements of Graphical symbols for pipe lines and instruments given in IS 9446:1980are also being covered. Therefore,IS 3232 is retitled as 'Recommendations on graphical symbols for processflow diagram, piping and instrumentation diagrams'.After the publication of this standard IS 9446:1980shall be treated as withdrawn. \nProcess flow diagrams are widely used in chemical industry as an aid to show basic items of major equipmentsand their relations to one another in the process scheme. The important flow lines are indicated as connectingitems of equipments and help to describe how the process operates. \nPiping and instrumentation diagrams are used in the chemical industry to indicate all important aspects suchas: \n—All equipment items \n一All instrument items \n—All pipelines \n—Important aspects such as insulations, slopes, equipment elevations, etc \nThis second revision of IS 3232 is based on the following: \na)IS 3232:1976, \nb)IS 9446:1980, \nc)Prevailing practices existing in leading design engineering organization in the country, and \nd)Instrumentation symbols are in line with Instrument Society of America(ISA)stipulations. \nIndian Standard \n#
