It introduces essential goat terminology, explains the key advantages of goat rearing, and compares common breeds by size, appearance, temperament, and milk production. The guide also outlines how to select bucks and does for breeding based on health, activity, gentleness, udder condition, and offspring potential to build a stronger herd.","Raising Goats \nlevel: advanced \nEnglish Agriculture \nRaising Goats \nIt uses material from Goat Raising, originally produced by the Bureau of Agricultural Extention, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines with \nkind permission \nEnglish \nOxfordshire, England \nCopyright © 2019, MissionAssist \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. It is a gentle animal which is not very big, so women and children can easily look after it. Besides this, the animal is quite clever and looking after it gives you something interesting to do, so choose the right sort of goat and make sure that you give it the care and attention that it needs everyday. Of course, you have to like animals and be willing to look after them well! \nA male goat is called a buck, and a female goat is called a doe. A female goat that is a mother is called a dam. A baby goat is called a kid. \nAdvantages of Raising Goats \n1. Goats cost less to raise than other animals because they are strong and can live on plants and other food that other animals won't eat. \n2. Goats come to full growth and have kids faster than cattle or carabao. A nine-month-old doe can have two kids in fourteen months, or six to eight kids in three years, so you quickly get back the money you spend on her. \n3. A goat gives very good milk and you will enjoy the meat and milk you get from her just as much as from a cow or other big animal. \nBreeds \nThe native goat is small and strong, with short legs. It weighs 20 to 30 kgms (45 to 65 lbs) but gives only 66 kgms (150 lbs) of \nmilk during the 187 days when it has milk. (Note to translators: this information relates to the Philippines, and should be checked and, if necessary, adjusted for other countries. ) \nThe Anglo Nubian is a graceful animal that comes from another country and does very well in many other places. It has long wide ears that hang down, and it has a high nose that makes it look proud. It weighs 65 to 80 kgms (140 to 180 lbs), and its coat can be a rich brown, ","cbCair3aJk3mAYKw","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCair3aJk3mAYKw","pdf",424671,2,1,29,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n## Advantages of Raising Goats\n# Breeds\n## Choosing Animals for Breeding","[{\"question\":\"Why are goats considered a good animal to keep?\",\"answer\":\"Goats provide very good milk and meat, are gentle and relatively small, and can be raised at low cost if cared for properly.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the basic terms for different goats?\",\"answer\":\"A male goat is called a buck, a female is a doe, a mother doe is a dam, and a baby goat is a kid.\"},{\"question\":\"How do you choose bucks and does for breeding?\",\"answer\":\"Choose bucks that grow quickly, are big, strong, and active, and come from a dam with many offspring and good milk.
