Our leadership team of teachers and staff work alongside our School Site Council and Parent Teacher Association to ensure all educational partners are informed, engaged and supportive of our Single Plan for Student Achievement, SPSA. Our mission is to create a safe and supportive environment where every student is empowered and equipped to reach their highest potential through rigorous, multiliterate education and the integration of multicultural experiences. \nPrincipal’s Message \nAt Railroad Canyon Elementary, we operate as a cooperative learning community working together to ensure student success. We continue with our mission to provide a safe, supportive learning environment in which students reach their highest potential. Student progress at Railroad Canyon is continually and collaboratively monitored through the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model of instruction and by providing a Response to Intervention (RTI) . In this model, teachers provide early, effective assistance to students with difficulty learning and extend learning for students who master content easily. Railroad Canyon teachers meet in grade-level teams weekly to analyze student data and use this information to guide instruction. Teachers develop group and individual goals at each grade level. An important aspect of education is preparing students to become good citizens with the skills necessary for social mobility. Each classroom stresses the importance of focusing on attending college after high school to both students and parents. \nWe have developed success criteria to help facilitate the creation of a safe, respectful school climate where all students can learn and do their personal best. We continue to focus on Boys’Town Social Skills and three school rules: 1. Be Safe, 2. Be Respectful, and 3. Be Responsible. Students are awarded with “Scholar Dollars” that they may use at our mobile Scholar Store. Our goals are set, and our expectations are high. \nRailroad Canyon is proud to offer the Dual Immersion program in grades TK-5. Our Dual Immersion program aims to develop a child’s proficiency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The program is academically sound, based on more than 40 years of research. In our Dual Immersion program, English speakers and Spanish speakers are brought together in the same classroom to develop fluency and literacy in both languages. In kindergarten and first grades, the core focus is on Spanish-language arts.
