The introduction frames the letters as a candid engagement with unresolved issues and invites readers to look beyond simplistic choices. The contents cover modesty, sexual harassment, cultural identity, conviction and piety, and a focused argument titled “Why Women Should Not Wear the Veil.” The acknowledgments emphasize interviews and faithful representation of women’s perspectives.","Questioning the Veil \nThis page intentionally left blank \nQuestioning the Veil \nOpen Letters to Muslim Women \nMarnia Lazreg \nPrinceton University Press Princeton and Oxford \nCopyright © 2009 by Princeton University Press Published by Princeton University Press, 41 William Street, Princeton, New Jersey 08540 \nIn the United Kingdom: Princeton University Press, 6 Oxford Street, Woodstock, Oxfordshire OX20 1TW \nAll Rights Reserved Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication Data \nLazreg, Marnia. \nQuestioning the veil : open letters to Muslim women / Marnia Lazreg. \n[p. cm](p. cm). \nIncludes bibliographical references and index. \nISBN 978-0-691-13818-3 (hbk. : alk. paper) 1. But they have not, and facing them meant facing myself, drawing on bits and pieces of my life to explain myself at the risk of whittling away at that special zone of privacy that I treasure so much. However, there are situations when commitment to change makes it incumbent on the writer to reveal herself as a person and put down the theoretical and methodological shields that usually ensure a semblance of detachment. I offer these letters in a spirit of candor. \nI deeply appreciate the trust that all the women I interviewed placed in me by sharing with me their thoughts and feelings. I have reproduced their words with accuracy, and I hope that my interpretation of their experiences is helpful to them and will contribute to a better understanding of the issue of veiling. I must also thank Sondra Hale for taking the time to read the manuscript and for her incisive comments.","cbCaidKgxvmKlDju","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidKgxvmKlDju","pdf",417670,1,169,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n# Letter One: Modesty\n# Letter Two: Sexual Harassment\n# Letter Three:
