It argues that current papers emphasize rote memorization of facts, chronology, dates, and publication sequences rather than testing subject understanding and teaching readiness for Assistant Professor roles and research eligibility. It highlights specific issues for Political Science (02) and English (30), including out-of-syllabus questions, uneven unit coverage, and excessive focus on details, citing examples such as the 6 January 2026 exam. In every session of UGC NET Exam the Question paper level is getting further deteriorated. \u000b\u000bAs per NEP 2020 also quality higher education must aim to develop good, thoughtful, well-rounded, and creative individuals. But the Question paper created by NTA just represents the idea of Rote Learning. Question paper is not evaluating the subject knowledge of an aspirant but how well he/she can memorize facts. \u000b\u000bThe Major Problems with UGC NET Question Papers Especially Political Science (02) and English (30) created by NTA as follows:
Rote learning oriented Question Paper – More than 60% questions are fact based, NTA expected student to memories things in Chronology, events, dates, Years, Sequence of book published by authors.
No Focus on Subject Knowledge – The way questions were asked they are not checking student’s knowledge about the exam and how well he/she will be able to teach as an assistant professor.
Out of the Syllabus Questions – With every cycle we are noticing an increase in questions being asked which have no direct connection with the syllabus, students prepare on the basis of Syllabus provided by UGC as well as from the trends of Previous year paper, they feel cheated and disappointed when unrelated question were asked. We suggested that the syllabus of UGC NET Exam should be revised. In most of the subject syllabus is vaguely defined and students find it very difficult to get the right scope for preparation. We suggested the syllabus of UGC NET Exam should be revised and aligned with Master’s level syllabus of University Like DU, JNU, BHU etc.
Excessive focus on Facts – Based on the trend of previous year papers students are bound to focus on facts which seems not so relevant in a longer run, but every next exam NTA goes further deep and ask absurd facts leaving students stuck in this loop.
Paper is being created from selectively from few units and ignoring the rest unit – In Political science subject core units like Political theory, Political thought, Indian Political thought, Comparative Politics, Public administration are ignored by the examiner, they are asking most of the questions only fact based question from International relations, Indian foreign policy and Political institutions in India. In recently conducted exam of 6th January 2026 not a single question was there from Public administration unit.
We are not asking NTA to make easy question paper, we are asking them to make it relevant as per the subject , make it relevant as per the objective of UGC NET exam to check the knowledge of Aspirants for JRF , Assistant Professor , and Ph.D. \u000b\u000bWe are sending this mail as an intimation to inform you about the discrepancies in question paper. We also wish to have an appointment with Director General (DG) of India's National Testing Agency on 14th January 2026, so that we can visit NTA office and can express our concerns.
