The pandemic’s impact on food security and nutrition have been significant, forcing up to 135 million people to join the 800 million that were already chronically undernourished.  \nI would like to mention a few key areas where the FAO-World Bank Cooperative Program has made areal difference last year and can make an even greater impact in 2021.  \nFirst, in 2020, our Investment Centre team supported the World Bank and our Members to develop 23 agriculture and rural development projects, for USD 5.7 billion in new investments. These projects focused on climate smart agriculture, sustainable livestock, irrigation, water management and nutrition sensitive agriculture. Investment is key to transforming the agri-food systems, which is why our Members allocated additional regular program resources, enabling FAO to provide more technical expertise to support more investment in food and agriculture.  \nSecond, in partnership with the World Bank, we responded to the COVID-19 challenges by supporting there-programming of nine ongoing investment projects and the development of seven new ones focused on COVID-19 response. Further, our teams completed over 900 field missions, almost all in a virtual manner, to successfully design these investment projects for the countries. The Investment Centre also carried out 11 COVID-19-related impact assessments and studies in 13 Members, including One Health studies for Asia and the Pacific and an impact study in Haiti. These upstream studies offer the opportunity to guide new investments in more resilient agri-food systems.  \nThe Hand-in-Hand Initiative is a third area of collaboration with the World Bank and others, which responds to the crisis and contributes to more resilient and sustainable agri-food systems. This innovative countrydriven and country-led program uses geospatial analytical tools to prioritize the most promising areas for agriculture and rural development interventions. It provides a practical, results-focused set of investment plans, in partnership with the World Bank and other investors. As of today, we have launched the Handin-Hand Initiative in 36 countries. We look forward to partnering with the World Bank and others to advance concrete investment plans in the upcoming months.  \nFAO is moving ahead in a new strategic direction, seeking to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals with a clearer emphasis on our value-added areas of expertise. With more focus on science, technology and all forms of innovation, leveraging more investments, a new fit-for-purpose management structure, and elevated partnerships including with International Financial Institutions, the private sector, universities, research centers, and civil society.  \nLooking forward, we have a number of notable events coming up for the remainder of 2021 where we will be collaborating with the World Bank and other International Financial Institutions.
