Council of CatholicWomen. It has been a wonderfully rewarding year and I would like toshare with you,if I may, some of my experiences. \nYou,through your diocesan presidents, invited me to participate in 34diocesan conventions,to meet with your boards, and to confer with yourleaders.Would you be interested in seeing a list of the dioceses visited? our women from Maine to California, from Minnesotato Texas. Many invitations were received that I could not accept becauseof overlapping dates, but I was with you in prayer and was conscious of thework you were doing in uniting our Catholic womanhood.Indeed,it wasa pleasure to send greetings to each and every diocesan council, meeting inconvention, where I was not personally present. \nI am truly grateful for the gracious hospitality extended in every areaof the country where I observed the council at work, visited with yourbeloved Bishops and priests and discussed with them our common concerns. It was edifying to be greeted by the officials of your communities, knowingthat the reception which they accorded me bespoke the respect in which \nthey hold the Catholic women of their community. To have heard themdeclare your importance in the civic projects was heartening. \nThe enthusiastic and zealous committee work is gratifying.Diocesancouncils throughout the country apply our suggested program to the par-ticular work which their Ordinary mandates. They support,as well, theideal of united Catholic womanhood by pooling this wonderful effort in theservice of God and country. \nOur National Board, composed as you know of twenty-five representa-tives of provinces in the United States, met twice this year.Policies werecrystalized and invitations were reviewed so that you could be adequatelyrepresented at over 100 national meetings held in all areas of the UnitedStates. The National Directors are available always to assist diocesanpresidents;your problems are their concern, your achievements their greatjoy, and their reports of your work add a glorious chapter in the Councilhistory. \nI have been extremely busy, too, discharging my responsibilities at mydesk at our headquarters office in Washington,D.C.I have spent a greatdeal of time with our staff, answering correspondence, planning field visita-tions,writing and reviewing Monthly Message and Women in CatholicAction and,on the whole, becoming personally acquainted with the totalwork involved in servicing our ever-growing number of affiliations. \nMy visits to our headquarters office have afforded me an opportunityto observe the dedication, the loyalty, the enthusiasm and the cooperation ofour staff. Our excellent Executive Secretary,Margaret Mealey,in completeaccord with me pursues diligently and
