PSYCHOLOGY\n\nAdvanced Placement Psychology-Mrs.NewtonSummer 2025 Reading AssignmentDue September 4th(B)or 5th(A),2025 \nWelcome to AP Psychology!I cannot wait to begin the next school year.To start off the yearstrong, this summer assignment has two parts and aims to prepare you for the course.Thepurpose of the first portion is to evaluate your motivations for taking the course and introduceyou to motivation which is one of the topics that will be studied during the year. The finalportion of this summer assignment is meant to introduce you to the scientific practices that arethe basis of the entire course and will be a focus throughout the whole course. It will alsointroduce you to the AP National Exam. While this exam is not a requirement for the course,Iwill be preparing all students to take it in May and all my tests and quizzes willmimic the APExam. \nWhile AP Psychology is fun, interesting and helps you understand human behavior,it is also achallenging and rigorous course. It requires consistent note taking, studying, and practice bothinside and outside of class.I have included extra resources at the bottom of the assignment.Theyfocus on study skills and memory.Understanding how we think, learn and commit informationto memory will help you understand how to study in a way that it sticks.I highly recommendviewing them and reflecting your current study habits. You may need to change your habits toadjust for the requirements of this course. \n## The Summer Assignment:\n\n### Part I:Motivation and AP Psychology→15-point process grade\n\nMotivation is a need or desire that energizes our behavior, including our motivation to take arigorous course, such as AP Psychology. There are many different theories of motivation, butthere are two forms of motivation that impact us on a daily basis:intrinsic motivation &extrinsicmotivation.Intrinsic motivation is a desire to perform a behavior effectively for its own sake.Extrinsic motivation is a desire to perform a behavior to receive promised rewards or avoidthreatened punishment. For more information about the difference between the two,see thesevideos: \n● https://youtu.be/ZN-mQpv8-8E \n### Directions:For this portion of the summer assignment:\n\n1.First,make a t-chart where you will list as many reasons as you can on why you havedecided to take this course.Give ALL your reasons(whether you think they aregood/important or not). This helps you understand your motivations to take this courseand what you hope to gain.It also helps me get to know you and your motivations so Ican help you reach your goals. \na.One side of the t-chart are intrinsic motivations, and the other side are extrinsicmotivations. \n2.Below the t-chart,rank all your motivations(from both sides),with\\#1 being the mostimportant reason why you are taking this course. \n3.Finally,explain why you ranked them in the order that you did.Be sure your explanationis thorough. \n4.The t-chart and explanations must be handwritten. \n### Part II:Unit 0:Scientific Foundations→Complete in packet.\n\nPacket will be broken into 4 grades→Each video will be work a certain number of points. \nDirections:In the provided packet (Handwritten only),you will watch the four videos on thescientific practices that is the basis of the ENTIRE course, will be applied consistentlythroughout the course and a key component in the multiple choice and free response sections ofthe national exam in May.You will answer the questions that accompany them by hand in thepacket. They do not need to be complete sentences,BUT they must fully answer the question oractivity. If it asks you to explain,be sure to elaborate and make connections based upon thequestion. \n\n| Video | Description | Link |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n|
