The PSAT, a preparatory test for the SAT, evaluates critical reading, math, and writing skills over a period of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test is optional, and students are advised to consider taking it as an Upper Mid unless it is their third year of high school. For third-year students, taking the PSAT is crucial for qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship competition, although these standings generally do not impact college admissions. Further details on the scholarship can be found at nationalmerit.org. The registration fee for the test is $23, and students must register online via the One Card portal between September 20th and October 5th. A $5 late fee will be applied for registrations after October 5th. Students eligible for fee waivers will be notified separately. While dedicated study for the PSAT is not recommended as it serves as practice, free practice tests are available on the College Board website (collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice), and physical practice booklets can be obtained from Mrs. Grusauski. PSAT scores are expected by mid-December and are intended solely for student use, not becoming part of the student transcript. For registration queries, students should contact Laurie Grusauski. Advising on whether to take the PSAT should be directed to the student’s advisor or class dean.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":20,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/psat-registration-information/158745/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/psat-registration-information/158745.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Asher","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-09-13","2026-08-29",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":24},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"When can Lower Mids take the PSAT?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"Lower Mids have the option to take the PSAT on Tuesday, October 26th.","Answer",{"name":115,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":116},"Who should consider taking the PSAT this year?",{"text":117,"@type":113},"The School recommends students wait until their third year of high school to take the PSAT, especially to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition.",{"name":119,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":120},"How much does the PSAT cost and when is the registration deadline?",{"text":121,"@type":113},"The cost of the test is $23, and students must register online between September 20th and October 5th. The PSAT is a preliminary SAT (2 hours and 45 minutes) which measures skills in critical reading, math, and writing. \nThe PSAT is not required, and registration is not automatic. In fact, unless this is a student’s 3rd year of highschool, the School recommends waiting until next year to take the PSAT, as an Upper Mid. If a student has repeated a year of high school, making this their 3rd year, this is the year to take the PSAT in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition. Third year high school students who take the PSAT are entered in the National Merit Scholarship competition.“National Merit” standings have little or no bearing on college admissions. More information about this competition can be found at [https://www.nationalmerit.org/](https://www.nationalmerit.org/) . \nThe cost of this test is $23 . Students must register online, through the One Card portal, between September 20 and October 5. Detailed registration instructions will be emailed to students. There will be a $5 late fee charged after October 5. Students who are eligible for fee waivers will be notified directly. \nSince this is meant to be practice, it is not suggested that time be devoted to studying for the PSAT, but College Board does offer free practice tests at [https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice](https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice), and practice test booklets are also available from Mrs. Grusauski. \nScores for the PSAT will be available by mid-December. They are for student use only and DO NOT become part of the student transcript. \nIf a student has questions about registration procedures, they should contact Laurie Grusauski.
