However, further requirements may be requested by the company to fulfill specific project requirements. The aim of this Project Engineering Standard is to make the engineers able to: review process diagram symbols; describe the use of process diagram and the information they contain; draw a process flow diagram; draw a process and instrument drawing; describe the various process equipment relationships. \nDEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY \nElectrical drawings—symbols and diagrams that depict an electrical process. \nElevation drawings—a graphical representation that shows the location of process equipment in relation to existing structures and ground level. \nEquipment location drawings—show the exact floor plan for location of equipment in relation to the plan’s physical boundaries. \nFlow diagram—a simplified sketch that uses symbols to identify instruments and vessels and to describe the primary flow path through a unit. \nFoundation drawings—concrete, wire mesh, and steel specifications that identify width, depth, and thickness of footings, support beams, and foundation. \nLegends—a document used to define symbols, abbreviations, prefixes, and specialized equipment. \nProcess and instrument drawing (P&ID)—a complex diagram that uses process symbols to describe a process unit; also called piping and instrumentation drawing. \nUNITS \nThis Standard is based on Units of the design country, except where otherwise specified. \n\n| KLM Technology Group\u003Cbr>Project Engineering Standard | PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM\u003Cbr>(PROJECT STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS) | Page 3 of 24 |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| | | Rev: 01 |\n| | | Feb 2011 |\n\nDEFINITION OF PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM (PFD) \nProcess flow diagram mainly defines: \n1. A schematic representation of the sequence of all relevant operations occurring during a process and includes information considered desirable for analysis. \n2. The process presenting events which occur to the material(s) to convert the feedstock(s) to the specified products. \n3. An operation occurring when an object (or material) is intentionally changed in any of its physical or chemical characteristics, is assembled or disassembled from another object or is arranged or prepared for another operation, transportation, inspection or storage. \nPURPOSE OF PFD \nThe purpose of PFD is generally as follows: \n1. Plant design basis \nPFD shows the plant design basis indicating feedstock, product and mainstreams flow rates and operating conditions. \n2. Scope of process \nPFD serves to identify the scope of the process. \n3. Equipment configuration \nPFD shows graphically the arrangement of major equipment, process lines and main control loops. \n4. Required utilities \nPFD shows utilities which are used continuously in the process. \nCONTENTS OF PFD \nInclusive \nPFD shall c","cbCaiu1YFqmZ32fH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiu1YFqmZ32fH","pdf",90660,13,"English","# SCOPE\n# DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY\n# UNITS\n# DEFINITION OF PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM (PFD)\n# PURPOSE OF PFD\n# CONTENTS OF PFD\n## Inclusive\n## Not Inclusive\n# GENERAL DRAFTING INSTRUCTIONS\n# IDENTIFICATION AND NUMBERING OF EQUIPMENT\n# DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT\n# DESCRIPTION OF INSTRUMENTATION\n# MATERIAL BALANCE TABLE\n# HEAT AND MATERIAL BALANCE SHEETS\n# PIPING AND EQUIPMENT SYMBOLS\n# SYMBOLS OF OPERATING CONDITIONS","[{\"question\":\"What does a process flow diagram (PFD) define?\",\"answer\":\"A PFD defines the sequence of relevant operations, presents events converting feedstock to products, and indicates an operation where materials are intentionally changed or arranged for further operations, transportation, inspection, or storage.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the main purpose of a PFD in plant design?\",\"answer\":\"A PFD establishes plant design basis and shows feedstock, product and mainstream flow rates and operating conditions, clarifies process scope, outlines major equipment configuration and main control loops, and identifies continuously used required utilities.\"},{\"question\":\"Which items are generally included in a PFD?\",\"answer\":\"Included items cover essential process lines, utilities and operating conditions for material and heat/material balance, continuous utility flow lines within battery limits, ordered equipment diagrams, simplified control instrumentation for process flow involvement, major analyzers, operating conditions, heat duties, process condition changes, alternate operating conditions, and a material balance table.\"}]","PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM - (PROJECT STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS) | PDF",1792975203,33]
