It examines how hope operates within imaginative, emotional, and capitalized neo-colonial worlds driven by “growth” and creative destruction, including how dashed hope fractures spirits. feeling, hope is a part ofour fabric.Because we live in capitalized,neo-colonisedworlds,with their constant thirst for'growth'and creative-destruction,hope is the most precious stuff of power:inciting, inviting, inspiring;making bodies move. \nOur capacities to endure and to make others endure areleveraged through the seductions and invocations of hopeWe might be seduced by miraculous visions and grandpromises,or by humbler, more intimate moments ofattachment that relieve -for a moment-the nausea andvertigo of despair. We might be moved by hope for justiceor any other ever-after story. We might work ourselves tothe bone,in hope of a better job tomorrow. We might voteagainst our true beliefs because some politician or otheroffers 'the only hope'. \nAnd every dashed hope leaves a small catastrophe-a spiritjust that little bit more broken. These dynamics of hopeproliferate senses of inspiration and expectation, depression and inadequacy.Such feelings can in turngalvanize new forms of hopeful politics -such as theresurgent far-right nationalist movements that align hopefor the future'with closed borders and the persecution ofminorities. \nAnd yet,we can no more give up on hope than we can giveup on time itself,or love,or our persistence in the world. \nThis book explores ‘problems of hope'.We refer to'problems'because we do not assume hope to be inherentlygood,or emancipatory.By paying attention to differentinstances and practices of hope,we reflect on how these canboth support and obstruct us in our efforts to make livesmore liveable,or futures more just. The essays show howhope can be re-engaged in the indeterminate margins, reenchanting writing and politics for a post-hopeful age.Itis a book for those who want to remain hopeful but find ithard to see how. \nWhat follows is a brief sketch of some of the 'problems'andquestions that inspired us to write this book together. \nHope that hurts \nHope can have effects that are very different to those thatare intended.Hope for vitality and growth can generateexhaustion.Hope for a good society can generate","cbCaipZtCGrqai9H","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipZtCGrqai9H","pdf",6125376,162,"English","#
