The streets were heaven, compared to the police cells. Earlier, he used to sleep outside Mr. Miyoba's cafe or at Solwezi Park. However, that changed when the 'nice' men took him to the mansion . It was nice, but it had caused his current calamity! \nBy the time Chimuka had realised that he had been involved in drug trafficking,it was too late. He felt so ashamed that he had entangled himself in this web of crime. He never knew the packages the men asked him to carry had drugs. How could he have known? He had trusted them because they were nice to him. They provided for all his needs. \nChimuka had often vowed never to involve himself in crime regardless of the situation. There were street boys like Weribe, and his little gang, who had turned to crime in order to meet their basic needs.Chimuka still remembered his mother's warning that crime didn't pay. How did they trick me into selling drugs? he wondered. The door swung open and he was thrown into the cell. \n\"Rule number 1: No phones in the cells!\" blared the officer in charge. \"Rule number 2... \" Chimuka did not hear the rest; he had collapsed and passed out. When heregained consciousness,he found himself lying on a bed, covered with an old blanket! Beside his bed was a boy, about his age. He looked weak and dirty. He turned to Chimuka and said,\"My name's Thomas-you could call me Tommy. What's yours?\"\"Chimuka,\" he responded, faintly. \n\"Do you know where you are?\" \n\"No, I don't,\" said Chimuka, looking bewildered . \n\"This is a correctional facility for young offenders like you and me. The police brought you here on realising that you are a minor. \nWhat crime did you commit?\" \n\"Some evil men tricked me into selling drugs! Why are you here yourself?\" \n\"I was caught stealing someone's headlights. However, I am not a thief anymore. I changed my ways. If you want, you can experience the same change,\" \nexplained Thomas. \n\"Really? I want that too. \" \n\"Yes,really! You could also experience the same change. Come, let's eat and sleep. I'll explain all about it tomorrow,\" said Thomas, enthusiastically. \n1.Check up the meaning of these words in your dictionary, and write them down. \na. trip h. blared \nb. mansion i. collapsed \nc. current j. consciousness \nd. calamity k. bewildered \ne. trafficking I. correctional facility \nf. entangled m. minor \ng. packages \nCheck Your Understanding \nWhich words tell you that the police van was moving extremely fast? \n ' ...on a trip...
