I would like to congratulate all students on the mature and responsible way they have approached their major assessments and for the way they have followed the expectations and instructions of exam supervisors. These important learning experiences not only allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills but also help develop the organisation, resilience and study habits that will serve them well throughout their education and beyond. \nOn Tuesday 16 June, all students enrolled in a Unit 3 and 4 VCE subject will sit the VCAA General Achievement Test (GAT) . While the GAT is not a test that students can specifically study for, it plays an important role within the VCE assessment process. We wish all our students the very best as they undertake this important milestone and the first of their external VCE examinations. \nThis week, our Senior Student Leaders presented a series of proposals outlining initiatives, improvements and opportunities for strengthening community connections to the Heads of Senior School and the Principal Team. Their presentation was exceptionally well planned, thoughtful and inspiring, offering innovative solutions and ideas for consideration. \n12 June 2026 \nCanterbury Girls’ Secondary College opened in February 1928. \nTerm 2 \n16 June \n23 June \n26 June \nGeneral Achievement Test (GAT) . Only students sitting the GAT to attend school \nCareers Evening \nLast Day Term 2-2.30 pm finish for students \nWhat impressed me most was that many of the ideas focused not on what would benefit them personally during their remaining time at the College, but on what would improve Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College for future generations of students. This reflects a powerful understanding of leadership and legacy. As we continue to strengthen connections with our past students and establish a vibrant alumni network, I am hopeful that today’s student leaders will become the next generation of the Mangarra Society—young people who remain connected to the College, contribute to its growth and continue to inspire those who follow in their footsteps. \nI would also like to thank all members of our community who completed the recent stakeholder survey. Your feedback and insights are invaluable and will play an important role in helping shape the future direction of Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College. I look forward to working alongside students, staff, parents and carers as we analyse the findings and develop a shared vision for the next chapter of our College’s journey. \nFinally, I encourage all members of our community to continue reading and learn more about an exciting and important new initiative featured on the following page. This initiative reflects our commitment to provide bespoke opportunities for our students. \nJulia Niamh \nPrincipal \nCONNECT WITH US \nMany students travel to school by public transport. \nFrom 1 January, young people aged 5-17 (inclusive) have been able to travel for free on Victorian public transport with a Youth myki. They need to carry it when they travel and must tap on and off. No concession identification needs to be shown when travelling with a Youth myki. \nMany students will turn 18 while still in Year 12 and no longer be eligible fora Youth myki. These students can still access concession fares by using a Child myki but will need to carry proof of concession identification while travelling (as has previously been the norm for students aged 17 and 18) . Having the PTV logo on Student ID cards counts as an eligible form of concession identification. \nCanterbury Girls’ Secondary College acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school stands.
