Martin  \nApril 3, 2020  \nParents,  \nI hope this update finds your family in good health. I know these are trying times for everyone. I wish I could give you more definite answers to some of your school questions. I have weekly meetings with the superintendent in Jackson and our school staff. When I receive updates I will share them. Important activities like our 8th grade celebration and summer program are never far from my mind. I have started planning for next school year as well. I heard a national health speaker say – We do not know what we do not know. How true that is.  \nHere is something I do know though. Children will remember the little things above anything else. I had just a few heartwarming stories about the little things I wanted to share. It is important to keep in mind children more often than not remember the simple things the most. I know parents are worried about the big events children will miss this Easter Season. However, I think people remember the small things more. Recently, we posted a few videos on Facebook of Sr. Margaret Sue reading nighttime stories. Many alumni have commented on how comforting that has been to hear and see her. When they were children, it was fun to have Sister read to them. Another story to that point, my parents recently sold my beloved grandmother’s house. When I was an Assistant Principal at Horn Lake High School, I would stop by my grandmother’s house every morning on my way to work. She would have me two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ready to take to work. I would eat the sandwiches each morning as I walked through the student parking lot on duty. The high school students thought it was funny my grandmother made me these sandwiches. By complete coincidence, I ran into a young man and his wife I remembered as Horn Lake High School students. They had recently bought their first home and they were excitedly telling me about it. After they finished, I realized they bought my grandmother’s house. The young man immediately said,“Oh wow, the grandmother who made you those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?” He said he had to call his parents and friends to tell them. Both of these stories show how the small little things leave lasting impressions on children. I hope during this time together you are able to do many small things with your children that create lasting memories.  \nAs we move into Holy Week, know that our entire school community is in my prayers as well as our staff’s prayers. I would like to give a special thanks to all of the parents on the front line right now as first responders and health care providers.
