Even its external appearance seems to hint of itsdeeply spiritual purposes. Much more is this evident withinits walls. Over the door to the temple appears the tribute“Holiness to the Lord.” When you enter any dedicated temple,you are in the house of the Lord.  \nIn the Church we build buildings of many kinds. In themwe worship, we teach, we find recreation, we organize. We canorganize stakes and wards and missions and quorums andRelief Societies in these buildings or even in rented halls. But,when we organize families according to the order that theLord has revealed, we organize them in the temples. Templemarriage, that sealing ordinance, is a crowning blessing thatyou may claim in the holy temple.  \nIn the temples members of the Church who makethemselves eligible can participate in the most exalted of theredeeming ordinances that have been revealed to mankind.There, in a sacred ceremony, an individual maybe washed andanointed and instructed and endowed and sealed. And whenwe have received these blessings for ourselves, we mayofficiate for those who have died without having had the sameopportunity. In the temples the sacred ordinances areperformed for the living and for the dead alike. Here is thebaptismal font, where vicarious baptisms for the dead areperformed, with worthy members acting as proxy for thosewho have gone beyond the veil.  \n“Come to the temple.” If not now, come soon. Prayfervently, set your lives in order, save whatever you can inhopes that that day may come. Start now that sometimes verydifficult and discouraging journey of repentance. The templetransforms the individual and makes abundantly worthwhile  \nany efforts made to get there. For some who live at greatdistances from a temple, the temples will come to you beforeyou might come to them. Keep your faith and your hope anddetermine that you will come—that you will be worthy andthat you will come tothe temple.  \nTHESE THINGS ARE SACRED  \nA careful reading of the scriptures reveals that the Lord didnot tell all things to all people. There were some qualificationsset that were prerequisite to receiving sacred information.Temple ceremonies fall within this category.  \nWe do not discuss the temple ordinances outside thetemples. It was never intended that knowledge of these templeceremonies would be limited to a select few who would beobliged to ensure that others never learn of them. It is quitethe opposite, in fact. With great effort we urge every soul toqualify and prepare for the temple experience. Those whohave been to the temple have been taught an ideal: Somedayevery living soul and every soul who has ever lived shall havethe opportunity to hearthe gospel and to accept or reject whatthe temple offers. If this opportunity is rejected, the rejectionmust be on the part of the individual.  \nThe ordinances and ceremonies of the temple are simple.They are beautiful. They are sacred. They are kept confidentiallest they be given to those who are unprepared. Curiosity isnot a preparation. Deep interest itself is not a preparation.Preparation for the ordinances includes preliminary steps:faith, repentance, baptism, confirmation, worthiness, amaturity and dignity worthy of one who comes invited asa guestintothe house of the Lord.  \nWe must be prepared before we go to the temple. We mustbe worthy before we go to the temple. There are restrictionsand conditions set. They were established by the Lord andnot by man.
