This surgery is recommended to treat or control cancer. Your fallopian tubes and ovaries may be removed at the same time. \nIn the past, a hysterectomy usually required a large incision (surgical cut) in the lower abdomen or belly area. Newer ways of doing surgery are “minimally invasive,” which means the surgery is done through small incisions. Patients having this surgery can usually go home on the same of surgery. \nA total laparoscopic hysterectomy is one type of minimally invasive hysterectomy. \n• The surgical team makes a small incision (about ½ inch) near your belly button. \n• They then put carbon dioxide gas into your abdomen to expand the area. \n• They insert a thin, lighted tube with a camera (called a laparoscope) through the incision. \n• The camera sends live images to monitors so the surgical team can see inside your body. \n• The surgical team makes other small incisions in your abdomen so they can use surgical tools to remove your uterus, cervix (total laparoscopic hysterectomy) and/or fallopian tubes and ovaries (salpingo-oophorectomy) . \nBenefits of minimally invasive hysterectomy: \n9 Less pain and scarring \n9 Less time in hospital \n9 Faster recovery \n9 Less chance of bleeding and infection \nSurgeons with special training can do a robotic-assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy. The approach is similar to a laparoscopic hysterectomy, but the surgeon uses a computer to control the precise movements of the surgical tools, guided by a 3-dimensional view of your uterus and surrounding organs. \nYour surgeon will describe the type of surgery that is recommended for you, and answer your questions during your clinic visit. Your surgeon will decide if you area candidate for robotic-assisted or laparoscopic surgery. \nWhen is my Pre-Admission Clinic visit? \nYou will have an appointment in the Pre-Admission Clinic 1 to 3 weeks before your surgery. This appointment may also be done virtually over the phone. \nThis visit is very important to assess your health and help you prepare for your surgery and recovery. If you do not come to your Pre-Admission appointment, we may have to cancel your surgery. Plan for your visit to take at least 4 hours. We suggest you to bring someone with you to this appointment. \nDirections to the Pre-Admission Clinic from the Elizabeth Street entrance: \n• Enter Toronto General through the Elizabeth Street entrance. \n• Follow the signs to the Pre-Admission Clinic on the Ground floor. \nDirections to the Pre-Admission Clinic from Princess Margaret: \nPre-Admission Clinic \nToronto General Hospital \n200 Elizabeth Street Eaton Building – Gr","cbCaidqhtHW9RGbV","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidqhtHW9RGbV","pdf",569375,22,"English","# Inside this guide\n## Learning about your surgery\n## How to prepare for your surgery\n## What to expect on the day of surgery\n## How to care for yourself when you leave the hospital\n## Who to call if you have questions\n## When to get medical help\n# Patient Education\n## What is a minimally invasive hysterectomy?","[{\"question\":\"What is a minimally invasive hysterectomy?\",\"answer\":\"A total hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix, and may also remove fallopian tubes and ovaries.
