This holds true for the Prelims as well. Last year, we witnessed one of the toughest papers in recent years. We have set this question paper almost on the model of the 2023 paper (i.e., template-wise) . But we have also made a few additions to give this paper a fresh look. \nIn recent years, there have been a few observable changes in the Prelims Question Papers. \nFirst, there has been an increase in the number of Geography questions in the Prelims. Likewise, we have also incorporated a sizeable number of Geography questions covering important areas such as climatology, oceanography, resource geography, Indian physical geography, and geomorphology. Since geomorphology is an under-explored area in the Prelims, there is a chance of getting questions from it this year. \nSecond, there were many questions from the core areas that were inspired by the current events. The question on the Flag Code of India in last year's paper is one such example. To address this trend, we have included many questions from core areas that are inspired by current events. Questions on Chenab (due tothe fact that Chenab Bridge is in the news), Deputy Chief Minister (many states recently saw the swearing in of Deputy Chief Ministers), and Questions on Maratha Empire, Mughal Empire, and Chola Dynasty (all three are in the news for various reasons) are a few examples of this. \nThird, there has been a shift in the questions from Environment and Ecology. In recent years, the number of questions about biodiversity has increased. With this in mind, we have also included an adequate number of questions from this area. Apart from this, there are questions about the basic concepts of ecology, environment-related initiatives and legislations, agriculture, and pollution. \nLastly, there is a shift in the questions from World Affairs. UPSC has started asking very specific regions and incidents rather than just location-based questions. Similarly, we have also included a few questions on this line. The question about the Yanomami region is an example of this. \nThat's about the recent trends. Apart from these, the core philosophy of the UPSC papers hasn't changed much. So by adhering to this philosophy, we have included questions from all important core areas in each subject. \nThese include questions on the Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Parliament, Panchayati Raj Institutions, constitutional and statutory bodies, Schedules, elections, executive and criminal justice from the Indian polity. Criminal justice is a topic that has gained much importance in recent years. \nIn the Indian Economy, the questions cover areas such as the monetary policy, fiscal policy, external sector, and human development. These include questions on different monetary policy rates, balance of payments, revenue neutral rate, etc. \nFrom Ancient and Medieval History and Art and Culture, we cover topics such as Buddhism, temple architecture, sources of history, major dynasties, and the Bhakti movement. \nThough the number of questions from Modern India was lower last year, we cannot expect the same this year. So, we have added questions on famous personalities, various movements, newspapers, and organisations associated with the Indian freedom movement and British policies. \nQuestions from Science and Technology are more dynamic in nature. Therefore, we have added questions from a few current affairs-wise important topics, such as nuclear fusion bombs, Hepatitis C, Agni-5, and XPOSAT. Questions from basic science were also added to keep a balance between core and dynamic areas. \nWe hope this test has helped challenge your understanding of the basic concepts and your problemsolving abilities and provide you with a UPSC-like experience. \nVaisakhan G.S.
