Unfair\n\nBY BARBARA BAETZ  \nAfter working four long,hard years in high school,a three-hour test isallit may take to make or break a student when it comes to college admis-sions.  \nBecausecolleges are open to students from all over the country,it's im-possible for each college to know each high school's reputation,so mostrequire prospective students to take to take a pre-college test.  \nThe pre-college tests that concern most DHS students are the American  \nCollege Test(ACT),Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT),and the AchievementTests.The ACT and Achievement Tests are used for placement while theSAT is used to verify high school records.  \nWith all the importance placed on the tests,the test system as it is nowleaves much to be desired.In the first place,the tests are given on Satur-days so the students are already tired out from the past week of school.The material in the tests is dull and the reading selections are just plainboring so this makes it even more of a chore to read them.  \nPressure builds up because the tests are timed so students hurry along,sometimes answering two or three questions a minute.The answers aremultiple choice or,in many cases,multiple guess.  \nIn applying to more than one college,a student may find that one requiresthe SAT while the other requires the ACT.Instead of different colleges re-quiring different tests,thereshould be one test accepted by all.This shouldby given during a school day early in the week instead of on a Saturday.  \nMaterial on the test should be more practical.If a student doesn't knowthe opposite of placate,for example,or the square root of 2,209,does itmean he isn't of college caliber?Or does it simply mean he hasn't beenexposed to a word that isn't used much or a math problem that would pro-bably never come up any way.  \nStudents go to college to learn,so if the purpose of a pre-college test isto see if a student will make it in college or how he will fit in,it shouldmeasure his
