The focus of the class will be all four methods of communication: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. The goal of the course is going beyond just survival in Japan: students farther expand their knowledge and skills of Japanese, understanding and utilizing authentic materials for communication, being able to discuss various topics by expressing both facts and their perspectives. More than 150 Kanji letters will be introduced.  \nCourse Objectives  \nStudents are expected to be able to:  \n1. Express own perspectives with reasons, using complex sentences (verbal & written) .  \n2. Discuss various topics and appropriately respond in a given situation  \n3. Read authentic materials and understand their contents.  \n4. Comprehend authentic audio materials.  \n5. Enrich an understanding of Japanese culture and people in Japan.  \nSupply List  \nü Pencils or mechanical pencils with an eraser.  \nü One binder or folder (recommended)  \nü iPad (if you choose to receive one from the ISD) . The bottom line of the policy is “No Pass/No Play.”  \nLate Work  \nStudents will lose 30 points or 30% when you turn in the assignment one A or B day for a late, meaning they will receive a zero for work turned in after one day late. Be on time!  \nHomework  \nThere will be homework assignments. Most homework will be weekly and uploaded the beginning of the week (it will be on Monday whether or not Monday is an A-day or B-day or no school day) . For the weekly homework, the due date is always Friday night (whether or not Friday is an A-day or B-day OR no school day) . Weekly homework is usually reading and writing. Working on the homework assignment INDEPENDENTLY is MUST to pass the AP exam. You may have quizzes based on the homework as well.
