BOOKLET \nFOR \nPOLICE OFFICER \nENTRANCE LEVEL EXAMINATION \nPrepared by the Office of State Examiner Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Testing and System Services Division Revised 07/2021 \nINTRODUCTION \nOne of the first steps toward becoming a police officer is taking and passing a civil service examination which is administered by the Office ofState Examiner for Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service. This booklet will provide you with important information about the examination process, some helpful hints on taking tests, and sample questions that are similar to those on the Police Officer examination. \nYou do not need to have a previous knowledge of law enforcement in order to pass this examination. The test has been designed to evaluate knowledge, skills, and abilities that are needed to successfully complete police officer training. For example, in order to successfully complete the police academy, you must be able to read and comprehend material on law enforcement procedures. Therefore, part of the written examination contains a section of questions on reading comprehension based on material similar to that which must be read on the job. \nBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST \nThe Police Officer Test consists of two parts: a test in recalling printed and spoken information and a multiple-choice written examination. \nBecause of the hazardous nature of the job, police officers must be able to comprehend and retain precise details even during highly charged or intense situations. The recall portion of the exam has been designed to determine how well you are able to listen to and/or observe situations where you will later be required to remember and relay information . This part of the examination will take approximately thirty minutes. Because this portion of the exam consists of recorded material , it is very important that you arrive at the exam site at least 15 minutes before the exam starting time. You will not be admitted to the exam once the examination begins . \nThe second part of the exam for police officer is a multiple-choice test consisting of 75 multiplechoice questions which are divided into twelve subject areas: English usage, classifying information, problem solving, estimating quantity, interpreting maps, evaluation, two dimensional diagrams, noticing details, basic information, prioritizing, logic, and reading comprehension. You will have one hour and forty-five minutes in which to complete this part of the examination. \nPOLICE OFFICER WRITTEN TEST CONTENT TABLE \n\n| SUBJECT AREA | PERCENTAGE OF WRITTEN TEST |\n| --- | --- |\n| ENGLISH USAGE | 14% |\n| CLASSIFYING INFORMATION | 3% |\n| PROBLEM SOLVING | 24% |\n| ESTIMATING QUANTITY | 3% |\n| INTERPRETING MAPS | 7% |\n| EVALUATION | 1% |\n| TWO-DIMENSIONAL DIAGRAMS | 1% |\n| NOTICING DETAILS | 3% |\n| BASIC INFORMATION | 14% |\n| PRIORITIZING | 7% |\n| LOGIC | 7% |\n| READING COMPREHENSION | 16% |\n| TOTAL | 100% |\n\nENGLISH USAGE \nThis section is designed to evaluate your ability to recognize and use correct English. These items will contain words or sentences in which only one choice is correctly spelled or written grammatically correct. By choosing the correct answer from the multiple choices provided, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of subject/verb agreement, spelling of common words, and correct word usage. \nCLASSIFYING INFORMATION \nThis section is designed to evaluate your ability to categorize information received from witnesses as fact or opinion. You will read statements and then choose the sentence that represents fact or opinion. \nPROBLEM SOLVING \nThis section is designed to evaluate your ability to read information and arrive at a solution through mathematics. The questions in this category will require you to read and analyze word problems and work through the information provided to mathematically arrive at a correct answer. \nESTIMATING QUANTITY \nThis section is designed to evaluate your ability to estimate quant","cbCaicW8jNWlAheI","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicW8jNWlAheI","pdf",1157174,46,"English","# Introduction\n# Brief Description of the Test\n# Police Officer Written Test Content Table\n# English Usage\n# Classifying Information\n# Problem Solving\n# Estimating Quantity\n# Interpreting Maps\n# Evaluation\n# Two-Dimensional Diagrams\n# Noticing Details\n# Basic Information\n# Prioritizing\n# Logic\n# Reading Comprehension","[{\"question\":\"What are the two parts of the Police Officer test?\",\"answer\":\"The test has a recall portion using printed and spoken materials, and a multiple-choice written examination.\"},{\"question\":\"How long is each part of the examination?\",\"answer\":\"The recall portion takes about thirty minutes, and the multiple-choice written part provides one hour and forty-five minutes to complete 75 questions.\"},{\"question\":\"What subject areas are included in the written test and how are they weighted?\",\"answer\":\"The written test includes twelve subject areas—such as English usage, problem solving, interpreting maps, and reading comprehension—with each area assigned a specific percentage that totals 100%.\"}]","Police Officer Entrance Level Examination - Pre-Examination Booklet - Revised 07/2021 | PDF",1789731679,116]
