Her groceries had spilled on to the pathway.“Are you all right?” she asked. The woman nodded as she wiggled her hands and then her legs. \n“Nothing broken, although probably I’ll have a few bruises.” \n“Don’t rush to get up,” Jane advised as she began to pick up a runaway swede, turnip and a few parsnips.“Here, let me \n4 \nhelp you.” \nHaving returned the vegetables to the lady’s wicker basket and set it right Jane helped her slowly to her feet. \n“My name is Jane Collins. I’ll be happy to carry your basket and see you home safely.”“That would be most kind, Miss Collins. I’d appreciate that. I do feel a little shaken.”The woman smiled.“Mrs Celia Archer. My home is not far away.” \nJane picked up the basket and went to offer a steadying arm to Mrs Archer but then saw the older woman wince and the colour drain from her face. \n“I don’t feel quite right, actually.” \nJane hooked the basket over to her other arm and supported Mrs Archer on her lefthand side, knowing she’d fallen on her right. \nThey made slow progress. There had been a severe frost overnight and the pavements still glistened where yesterday’s puddles had frozen over. \n“I don’t sleep well these days so, as usual, I was up with the lark and dressed.“I thought I’d nip along to the market, stock up with vegetables, get home and light the fire. I should have taken more care.” \nShe smiled again but Jane noticed how, this time, it was more of a grimace. \n5 \nEventually they reached a modest little chalet bungalow with a young silver birch growing in the front garden. \nJane had always loved these trees, even in winter without their leaves. The beautiful bark stood out from the other trees and the long weeping branches reminded her of happy childhood days. \nHer heart filled with warmth. \nShe saw her new friend to the front door.“Is there someone who will be able to look after you? Perhaps make you comfortable with a pot of tea?” \nShe didn’t like the thought of leaving Mrs Archer to fend for herself, even if she was in her own, familiar home. \n“Aubrey, my son, pops in most days.”At the mention of his name Mrs Archer’s face lit up. \n“That probably won’t be until later in the day, though.” \n“Would you like me to come indoors with you and help you settle until he arrives?”Jane offered. \n“Well, you were on your way somewhere, I’m sure. I don’t want to delay you any further.” \n“It’s no problem at all,” Jane assured her.“I had just been for an interview and was on my way home. I’ve no particular plans for today.” \n6 She smiled. \n“To be honest I would much rather feel I was being useful than getting in the way of my landlady!” \n“In that case I’d very much welcome your help and ","cbCaicFs8cxpb0xW","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicFs8cxpb0xW","pdf",38949540,197,"English","# JANE COLLINS, AGENCY AUNT\n## Helping Hand","[{\"question\":\"What happens when Jane Collins encounters Mrs Celia Archer on the pavement?\",\"answer\":\"Jane rushes forward to help Mrs Archer after the older lady has slipped and fallen.
