Not only had his family split in half, but it mutated. The axis of his entire universe had suddenly warped, and the cluster of adults orbiting him had grown by one: another man.  \nBill’s so weird, Matthew thought. This whole thing is weird.  \nAs he watched the tiny television in his room, he tried to distract himself from the overwhelming feeling that his entire world was falling apart. The TV was one of many new gifts from his mother. It was like she thought throwing money at him would somehow solve the problem of his dissolving family unit and make everything normal again.  \nThings were the polar opposite at his dad’s apartment. And from the way his father talked, all that money she so willingly tossed around belonged to him anyway. Matthew didn’t know what to believe.
