The baby goat didn’t seem to be in pain, she still jumped around but often fell over. Peter’s father gave Peter the goat and asked him to give the goat special care and attention while she grew up.  \nPeter was pleased to have a goat of his very own. He planned to keep the goat very healthy and when she grew up and had baby goats of her own he would sell them and use the money to buy school books. He always watched that she got a good share of the food. He checked her foot every day and watched that she could keep up with the other goats.  \nOne day, after a big storm, when the goats had been down to the stream Peter noticed that his goat was staggering home like she was drunk. He ran to see what the problem was and she vomited over his feet and began shaking.  \nPeter picked her up and ran home to his father to ask what might be the problem.  \nThey gave the goat some good fresh water to drink and then went back to look at the stream. The water in the stream was a strange colour and smelt nasty.  \nPeter’s father guessed that someone had been putting insecticide on the field nearby and the storm had washed the insecticide out of the soil and into the stream.  \nPeter’s father explained that a farmer had not taken care because he should study the weather and apply chemicals on the fields only where the rain will not fall very soon. That night Peter’s goat was jumping happily again.  \nAnother day Peter’s goat followed him to his friend’s house. While the boys were playing the little goat was investigating the compound. His friend’s sister called to the boys and told them to look at the funny goat.
