narratives,or technical domains.Ensemble draws from mixed-media art practices and elec-trical circuitry.It connects building matter with a chargeand direction,and to states in time.Without resorting tothe exhausted juridical regime of the twentieth-centurycity,without imposing any one of the multiple dimensionsof meaning on a design act in advance,an ensemble is anarchitecture of territory.Ensemble,this volume intends,generates its territory and its social resonance activelyand simultaneously and constantly anew alongside designcreation.That is,ensemble is posed as anew critical designapproach capable of co-configuring architecture's intellec-tual and material territorial conditions,together.After thework of self-evident justification through embodied process,and beyond any design defense via biographical basis whenarticulated case-by-case,ensemble is a territory of multiplesrelated in space and time,an architecture of the city.It pro-vides a way to rethink object form such that it persistentlyimplies and generates alternative territorial conditions.  \nThe volume that follows is both about and is anensembleof a kind.The thematic assembly of the volume
