The study distinguishes mealtime performance from narrower ideas such as eating behaviors or feeding difficulties by emphasizing holistic functional capacity. It provides a theory analysis of the Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model for older adults with dementia, applying Walker and Avant’s systematic approach to evaluate origins, meaning, logical adequacy, usefulness, generalizability, parsimony, and testability. Results show strong conceptual fit and highlight person-environment and environment-occupation transactions as guidance for nursing science and person-centered interventions.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/research-report/","Research & Report",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/person-environment-occupation-model-of-mealtime-performance-in-older-people-with-dementia-theory-analysis/426718/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/person-environment-occupation-model-of-mealtime-performance-in-older-people-with-dementia-theory-analysis/426718.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Indoniesian Boy","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-20","2026-09-29",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",9,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What is “mealtime performance” in this paper, and how is it different from feeding difficulties?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"Mealtime performance centers on holistic functional capacity rather than isolated challenges. Mealtime performance differs from concepts like “eating behaviors” or “feeding difficulties” by focusing on the holistic functional capacity rather than isolated challenges. \nThis paper presents a theory analysis of the Person-EnvironmentOccupation (PEO) Model as applied to mealtime performance in older people with dementia, using Walker and Avant’s systematic approach. The PEO Model provides a holistic framework for understanding the dynamic interactions between individuals, their environments, and their occupations. The analysis examines the model’s origins, meaning, logical adequacy, usefulness, generalizability, parsimony, and testability in the context of mealtime performance for PLWD. Findings indicate that the PEO Model effectively conceptualizes how personal factors, environmental factors, and occupational factors interact to influence mealtime performance. The transactions between person-environment, environment-occupation, and person-occupation provide valuable insights into barriers and facilitators of successful mealtime engagement. While the PEO model has been extensively used asa framework in occupational therapy practice, it has yet to be fully applied within nursing science, particularly in dementia care. This model has potential applications in long-term care settings, where environmental modifications and personalized approaches can enhance mealtime participation. This analysis contributes to nursing science by providing a theoretical foundation for developing person-centered interventions for PLWD across different care settings.","cbCaif8kj19mWoO8","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaif8kj19mWoO8","pdf",52940,"English","# Theory focus and rationale\n## Clarifying mealtime performance\n## PEO model overview\n# Walker and Avant theory analysis\n## Origins and meaning\n## Logical adequacy and usefulness\n## Generalizability, parsimony, and testability\n# Findings and implications\n## Person-environment-occupation transactions\n## Nursing science and long-term care applications","[{\"question\":\"What is “mealtime performance” in this paper, and how is it different from feeding difficulties?\",\"answer\":\"Mealtime performance centers on holistic functional capacity rather than isolated challenges.
