response-mediated bone loss after dental implant surgery inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) . This study provides relevant information for reducing the risk of peri-implantitis after dental implant surgery in T2DM, highlighting the need to bridge the gap between risk identification and effective clinical management. However, the complex etiopathogenetic mechanisms elucidating the association between elevated inflammatory response markers and marginal bone loss in T2DM are not sufficiently clarified. Recent studies suggest that perirenal adipose tissue and alcohol consumption affect bone metabolism, which may contribute to the observed marginal bone loss after dental implant surgery in T2DM. Therefore, further studies using state-of-the-art boneassessing methodologies are needed to enhance our understanding of the potential covariant effects of perirenal adipose tissue and alcohol consumption on inflammatory response-mediated bone loss after dental implant surgery in T2DM. \nKey Words: Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Dental implants; Inflammatory response; Perirenal adipose tissue; Alcohol consumption \n©The Author(s) 2025. Contributing factors for T2DM-mediated bone loss \nCore Tip: The observational study by Li et al assessed the inflammatory response after dental implant surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) . While this study is clinically relevant, the mechanisms elucidating the association between elevated inflammatory markers and marginal bone loss in T2DM are scarcely described. Perirenal adipose tissue secreted adipokines and alcohol consumption may contribute to marginal peri-implant bone alterations in T2DM. Therefore, further studies are needed to assess potential covariant effects of perirenal fat and alcohol consumption on inflammatory responsemediated bone loss after dental implant surgery in patients with T2DM. \nCitation: Jadzic JS, Kekovic VD.
