Edited by James E. Barcus, it gathers landmark essays, reviews, notices, letters, and diaries to trace how critical attitudes toward Shelley formed, circulated, and changed over time. C. Southam \nThe Critical Heritage series collects together a large body of criticism on major figures in literature. Each volume presents the contemporary responses to a particular writer, enabling the student to follow the formation of critical attitudes to the writer’s work and its place within a literary tradition. \nThe carefully selected sources range from landmark essays in the history of criticism to fragments of contemporary opinion and little published documentary material, such as letters and diaries. \nSignificant pieces of criticism from later periods are also included in order to demonstrate fluctuations in reputation following the writer’s death. \nPERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY \nTHE CRITICAL HERITAGE \nEdited by \nJAMES E.BARCUS \nLondon and New York \nFirst Published in 1975 \nThis edition published in the Taylor & Francis e-Library, 2003. \nCompilation, introduction, notes and index © 1975 James E.Barcus \nAll rights reserved. On one side we learn a great deal about the state of criticism at large and in particular about the development of critical attitudes towards a single writer; at the same time, through private comments in letters, journals or marginalia, we gain an insight upon the tastesand literary thought of individual readers of the period. Evidence of \nthis kind helps us to understand the writer’s historical situation, the nature of his immediate reading-public, and his response to these pressures. \nThe separate volumes in the Critical Heritage Series present a record of this early criticism. Clearly, for many of the highly productive and lengthily reviewed nineteenth-and twentieth-century writers, there exists an enormous body of material; and in these cases the volume editors have made a selection of the most important views, significant for their intrinsic critical worth or for their representative quality—perhaps even registering incomprehension! \nFor earlier writers, notably pre-eighteenth century, the materials are much scarcer and the historical period has been extended, sometimes far beyond the writer’s lifetime in order to show the inception and growth of critical views which were initially slow to appear. \nIn each volume the documents are headed by an Introduction, discussing the material assembled and relating the early stages of the author’s reception to what we have come to identify as the critical tradition. The volumes will make available much material which would otherwise be difficult of access and it is hoped that the modern reader will be thereby helped towards an informed understanding of the ways in which literature has been read and judged. \nB.C.S. \nContents \nPREFACE page xiii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS xv \nINTRODUCTION 1 \nNOTE ON THE TEXT 39 \nOriginal Poetry, by Victor and Cazire (1810) \n1 Unsigned review, The Literary Panorama, October 1810 41 2 Unsigned notice, The British Critic, April 1811 44 3 Unsigned notice, The Poetical Register…1810–1811, 1814 45 Zastrozzi, A Romance (1810) \n4 Unsigned notice, The Gentleman’s Magazine, September 1810 46 \n5 Unsigned review, The Critical Review and Annals of Literature, November 1810 47 \nSt. Irvyne: or The Rosicrucian (1811) \n6 Unsigned notic","cbCaim3BSMtfh4Xd","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaim3BSMtfh4Xd","pdf",1186630,449,"English","# Preface\n# Acknowledgments\n# Introduction\n# Note on the Text\n# Original Poetry, by Victor and Cazire (1810)\n# Zastrozzi, A Romance (1810)\n# St. Irvyne: or The Rosicrucian (1811)\n# The Necessity of Atheism and a Declaration of Rights (1811)\n# Queen Mab (1813)","[{\"question\":\"What kind of materials does this book collect about Shelley?\",\"answer\":\"It collects contemporary responses including reviews, notices, letters, and other documentary fragments connected to Shelley’s reception.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the series help readers study changes in Shelley’s reputation?\",\"answer\":\"By including criticism from later periods, the volume shows how reputation and critical attitudes fluctuate after Shelley’s death.\"},{\"question\":\"What sections guide the reader through the compilation?\",\"answer\":\"The volume provides a General Editor’s Preface, an Introduction, and a Note on the Text, followed by an ordered contents list of documents.\"}]","Percy Bysshe Shelley - The Critical Heritage | PDF",1789944638,691,{"code":4,"msg":82,"data":99},[100,104,107,111,116,121,126,131,136,139,143],{"id":22,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":26,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":29,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":106},80,"literature",{"id":33,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":108,"show_sort_weight":109,"slug":110},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":112,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":113,"show_sort_weight":114,"slug":115},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":117,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":118,"show_sort_weight":119,"slug":120},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":122,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":123,"show_sort_weight":124,"slug":125},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":127,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":129,"slug":130},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":132,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":133,"show_sort_weight":134,"slug":135},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":134,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":137,"show_sort_weight":134,"slug":138},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":140,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":141,"show_sort_weight":140,"slug":142},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":144,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":145,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":146},19,"General","general"]
