Interviews with 18 participants via teleconferencing explored knowledge sources, access to daily PrEP, safe-sex practices, and barriers and facilitators. Participants reported high perceived HIV risk as a motivator, described free or subsidized access through non-profit services, and expressed reluctance to daily dosing despite adherence and widespread condom use. While most lacked prior knowledge of long-acting injectable PrEP, they viewed switching as desirable if cost and availability improved, and recommended expanded acceptability work for India-based interventions.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/","Healthcare",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/perceptions-and-experiences-of-daily-and-long-acting-pre-exposure-prophylaxis-prep-among-msm-in-india/404846/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/perceptions-and-experiences-of-daily-and-long-acting-pre-exposure-prophylaxis-prep-among-msm-in-india/404846.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"anakgang17","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-31","2026-09-27",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",12,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"How were participants recruited and what data-collection method was used?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"Participants (n = 18) were recruited through active MSM social media networks, and interviews were conducted via teleconferencing software. An increased willingness to use PrEP among at-risk Indian men who have sex with men (MSM) population has been reported; however, little is known about their real experiences that guide their key motivators, facilitators, and barriers with using oral and Long-Acting (LA) \nInjectable PrEP. We recruited participants (n = 18) through active MSM social media networks. The interviews were conducted using teleconferencing software. Interview topics included participants’ sources of knowledge, experiences accessing daily PrEP, safe-sex behaviors while on PrEP, barriers and facilitators around PrEP, long-term goals with PrEP, perceptions around LA PrEP, and discussion around decision-making to switch from oral PrEP to LA PrEP. Transcripts were coded according to interview topics, and key themes were analyzed using a topical data analysis approach. Participants (median age 28 years, ranging from 18 to 40) reported a high perceived risk of HIV. This increased perceived risk was a key motivator for oral PrEP uptake. Most participants shared that they accessed PrEP through non-profit organizations serving the MSM community, where doctor consultations and medication were either free or subsidized. Even when participants reported high adherence to oral PrEP, they expressed discontent with the requirement to take it daily. High condom usage was reported concomitantly with PrEP use among most participants, except for a few who preferred bareback sex. Participants shared that they would prefer to continue PrEP until they are in a monogamous, exclusive relationship. The cost and affordability remained recurring themes, and while participants could afford oral PrEP, they wished it was cheaper, making it more accessible to the community at large. Most participants did not have prior knowledge of LA injectable PrEP but welcomed the intervention, alluding to cost and availability as the key decision-making factor","cbCaibw1abR0QrHa","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibw1abR0QrHa","pdf",493965,22,"English","# Abstract\n# Research Article\n# Introduction\n## HIV prevalence context in India\n## PrEP as an HIV prevention strategy\n## PrEP availability and approvals in India","[{\"question\":\"How were participants recruited and what data-collection method was used?\",\"answer\":\"Participants (n = 18) were recruited through active MSM social media networks, and interviews were conducted via teleconferencing software.
