Primary data were collected from 430 corporate executives of Indian manufacturing companies through a questionnaire survey. Correlation and hierarchical regression analysis were performed to study the relationship among variables. Results show that POS significantly affects OC. Findings also establish a significant relationship between P–O fit and OC. Further, the moderating impact of P–O fit affecting the relationship between POS and OC has been established. This study highlights the importance of providing organizational support to employees in order to foster their commitment to the organization. Moreover, results provide evidence that if there is fit between the values of the employees with that of the organization, it enhances the commitment level of the employees. In addition to the establishment of a significantly positive relation between POS and OC, this study also determines P–O fit as a factor that can moderate the relationship between POS and OC. \nKeywords \nPerceived organizational support, person–organization fit, organizational commitment, moderator \n1 Department of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, India. \n2 International Management Institute Bhubaneswar, India. \nCorresponding author: \nSupriti Mishra, International Management Institute Bhubaneswar, Odisha 751003, India. For any organization, aligning its people strategy with its business strategy has become imperative for its long-term sustainability. It is through employees’ enduring efforts that an organization reaches its objective, leading to organizational success (Ghani, 2006) . Organizational support towards employees results in beneficial outcomes such as organizational commitment (OC) . These beneficial outcomes emerge when the employee and the employer reciprocate favourable treatment towards eachother. The relationship between an employee and the organization is also the main focus of perceived organizational support (POS) (Eisenberger et al., 1986) . POS is the collective perception of employees about the extent to which the organization values their contributions and cares for their well-being. A key concept associated with POS is the norm of reciprocity (Gouldner, 1960) . When employees have high levels of POS, reciprocity (Gouldner, 1960) motivates them to help the organization achieve its goals and objectives (Eisenberger et al., 1986) . However, finding the right fit of employees for the organization’s activities has been a daunting task. The ability to retain employees depends on the extent to which organizational values are aligned with the individual’s values. In other words, organizations should stress upon person–organization fit (P–O fit) while recruiting and selecting employees. P–O fit is the compatibility of the values of the employees with those of the organization. A good fit between an organization and its employees can lead to positive work-related behavior such as OC. \nOC is reflected in an employee’s intention to continue with the organization, her or his identification with the goals and objectives ofthe organization, and willingness to achieve the same (Loi et al., 2006; Mowday et a","cbCaipDjwofXb63c","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipDjwofXb63c","pdf",804816,14,"English","# Introduction\n# Literature Review\n## Perceived Organizational Support and Organizational Commitment","[{\"question\":\"What relationship does the study examine between POS and organizational commitment?\",\"answer\":\"The study finds perceived organizational support significantly affects organizational commitment.\"},{\"question\":\"How does person–organization fit relate to organizational commitment?\",\"answer\":\"The findings establish a significant relationship between person–organization fit and organizational commitment.\"},{\"question\":\"What role does person–organization fit play in the POS–OC relationship?\",\"answer\":\"Person–organization fit moderates the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment.\"}]","Perceived Organizational Support and Organizational Commitment - Moderating Role of Person–Organization Fit | PDF",35]
