It is a good game for getting children to really think about how to use brackets and what order the operation has to go in. \nAge range: 5th grade + \nNumber of players: 2+ \nLearning: PEMDAS, estimation, strategy, using brackets You will need \n- a sets of digit cards (0-9) per player \n- a Game board for each player-cut out \n- A scientific calculator (optional) \nInstructions \n• Shuffle the sets of digit cards and place them face down in a pile. \n• The target number is 50 for the addition and multiplication PEMDAS board and 20 for the multiplication and subtraction pemdas board. \n• Player 1 takes a digit card from the pile. Player 1 then places the digit card on their number board to try to make a calculation as close to the target number as they can. Calculators are not available at this stage! \n• Player 2 then takes a digit card and places it on their board with the same aim. \n• Player 1 then takes a second card, and places on one of the remaining spaces on their number board. \n• No player can move any digit card once they have placed it on their board. \n• Once both players have finished placing their 3 digits, each player works out their PEMDAS calculation, and how close they are to the target number. \n• The winner is the player who gets closest to the target number. \nVariations \n• The winning player chooses the target number at the start of the game. The players both try to make a product as close to the target number as possible. \n| | \u003Cbr>[www.math-salamanders.com](www.math-salamanders.com) | | | | |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| | | | | | |\n\n\n| | \u003Cbr>[www.math-salamanders.com](www.math-salamanders.com) | | | | | |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| | | | | | | |\n| | | | | | | |\n| | | | | | | |","cbCaij7N5kOfx5GZ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaij7N5kOfx5GZ","pdf",174150,"English","# PEMDAS Game Overview\n## Game Objectives and Learning Goals\n## Required Materials\n## Game Instructions\n## Winning and Variations","[{\"question\":\"What is the primary goal of the PEMDAS Game?\",\"answer\":\"The goal is to use digit cards and mathematical operators to create a calculation that results in a value as close to a pre-set target number as possible.\"},{\"question\":\"Who can play the PEMDAS Game?\",\"answer\":\"The game is designed for 5th-grade students and above, requiring at least two players to participate.\"},{\"question\":\"Are calculators allowed during the game?\",\"answer\":\"Calculators are optional and generally discouraged during the calculation phase, as the game focuses on mental math, estimation, and understanding the order of operations.\"}]","PEMDAS Game - 5th Grade Math Activity | PDF"]
